Excellent. Perfect for the assignment, but also a very good picture by itself.

I'm sorry to say that, but the lack of originality of this kind of entry is one of the reasons I don't feel like participating to the challenges here anymore. It's difficult to appeal to people if you don't come up with a water drop picture...
Very well executed though.

Hi Anna

One thing I've learned in photography is that an image has to be self-explanatory and the message or idea has to jump to the eyes of the viewers. It has to be extra obvious to be good. And I must tell you that I didn't get it it was a a whisk on top of the recipe. And I looked at it for quite a while unlike probably most of the voters... So you can bet probably a lot of them didn't get the idea behind this shot. And that's too bad because I think it was a good idea, but the realization could have been better.
Also, as pointed out in the comments, it would have been much better if the recipe was hand written. I guess you agree with that.
So, what would I have done to improve this shot: use a greater depth of field so that all the wires would have been in focus and maybe a slightly wider view. And I find it funny that you foresaw this critique: then how come you didn't took it into consideration? :)
To summarize: I think you had a good idea, but a little more commitment in taking this picture would have enhanced it greatly.
Keep it up, you have original and good ideas, that's half of the work!

Christophe, for The Critique Club.

This should have done much better IMO. An original take on the challenge, and an excellent one.

An interesting take on the challenge.
The colors really pop up from the screen as you discover the image, and I like that. ... It was important to focus on that, because the theme is "colors". You managed through your original processing to get vivid and clean colors. This image, with the processing you did, has a surreal look I really like. The fact that I can't really tell what it is makes me focus on the colors, which is the main subject here. Very well done.
However, the way you modified this image makes this entry more a digital work than a photograph. I find it difficult to judge this entry because of that. It is not a photograph anymore in my opinion. I still think it was a good move in the particular case of this theme, because the unreal look focuses on colors, but at the same time I can't stop thinking you're out of the limits of the contest. The best proof is that I can't judge of the quality of exposure here: it is totally irrelevant.
So I have very mixed feelings. I think it is a very good digital work, but not a photograph.

Good luck for your future entries!

Bonjour Nathalie!

There are many good aspects in this photograph.
First I like your composition. You filled the frame in a good way, well balanced. This image is also very sharp, which is really important for macro shots of plants. Your choice of DOF is also very good. All those leaves are in focus, while the background is blurried enough not to distract from the foreground. Well done.
The main flaw of this picture is that it is definitely overexposed in some areas. Not so much, but enough to be distracting. Too bad, I would have liked to see this shot with a different exposure. It is very disturbing in my opinion because the subject of this photograph is mainly the color green. This would have "popped up" more if the image was darker I think.
Anyway, besides that, this is a pretty well executed photograph.

Good luck for your future entries!

Wow, thanks a lot for all those very nice comments!
I woud have liked to answer to you all personally, but it's not possible.

When the picture came out on the LCD, I kind of knew this was a good shot. I sometimes have this feeling, but not often enough IMO. :)
But it's the first time I take a picture that so many people really like. I feel very happy for this reason, because I believe a good photography is one that anybody can appreciate, no matter if you are a pro photographer or never took a picture.
So this might be my first good picture. :)
Thanks again for the very kind words.
