Arrr, who goes thar? by hawkeyefilmsComment: Great concept and congratulations on your first ribbon. Another change you could try in your post processing steps is to not do any sharpening until after you size the image to 800 pixels. I don't know if your software has Unsharp Mask (USM) but if you do, here are a couple of settings you can use after you size the image.
Amount 100% Radius 1.0 or Amount 75% and Radius 0.75.
I find one of these two settings will work after I downsize my image.

After 20 years... who needs lingerie?by AarthekComment: Responding to your forum thread for comments: I found the concept to be fairly creative and the shallow dof a plus to the composition. Where this image earned a 5 from me was that it lacks contrast. I'm not sure how you converted the image to b&w but there is a good tutorial here DPC B&W Tutorial.

Cruzin'by punk_kaosComment: I'm not sure this is the best subject for shallow depth of focus. I understand why you choose to focus on the end of the exhaust pipe but my eyes are drawn to the colored wheels. |

A Few of My Favorite Thingsby MereComment: A very nice job with the lighting and the composition. The image doesn't look very sharp. Did you sharpen it after downsizing it for the challenge? Pictures often require some sharpening after resizing for a challenge. |

IMG_0688-canoe-driftwoodV2.jpgby Bear_MusicComment: Stopping by to give you a birthday comment: This image is exceptional, as it has so many layers to look at. The foreground, reflection with canoe, and the tree / sky interface all have an interesting draw and makes for a fun image to explore.

Square Noseby tivoComment: Back to comment and bump: I agree that the nose is square but it doesn't speak to me as the strongest subject in this image. If the eyes were less buggy looking, that would be the main subject. But since they are a little uncomfortable to stare at (Pun intended), the leading lines of the face bring my attention down to the nose. But the nose in itself is not that compelling and my eyes wander off to other areas in the photo. I love the post processing you did. |
