I really hope this doesn't tank, cause I've never had so much go into one of my photos for DPC as this one did. this one took days of ideas, and then a couple of evenings of shooting ideas. Also this is way beyond my comfort zone, as I generally do landscapes and old rusty things.

Thanks to my wife for her help (legs) and ideas during this challenge.

Details:
Tripod, F/2.8 for blurry legs, ISO 400 with 1/6 of a second shutter. Tried with higher and lower ISO, and got to much or not enough "noise", but 400 seemed to be the area I wanted.

Wife came up with a new title:
Better Without..

To late now though.

Thanks to all for your comments and critiques.. This was very new to me in many ways, and I learned a lot and that's what matters.

This is a great image, and I would have scored it a 6. It's a tad underexposed and would really have benefitted from tweaking the highlights in post. The setup is perfect, the composition great. I understand the "dark blob" to be the bed. Your focal point is right on, and the disappearing depth of field is great. Your choice of black and white is inspired. I don't like the fact that you've forced the story on us with the title, and I would have been more restrained with that. Capturing all of the lingerie in the frame would have been best (not cutting it off at right). Again, fixing the dull and underexposed nature of the photo in post work would have really made the impact greater. Great photo otherwise.

Responding to your forum thread for comments: I found the concept to be fairly creative and the shallow dof a plus to the composition. Where this image earned a 5 from me was that it lacks contrast. I'm not sure how you converted the image to b&w but there is a good tutorial here DPC B&W Tutorial.

Very simple, nicely photographed, not the typical porn style shot. Very tasteful and nice message. Like the B&W to it. Tells a story. :) 9

Each marriage can use some spicing up from time to time, even after 20 years :-) I like the DOF, the b&w gives it something extra. To me this one enters in the row with the "good and tasteful photographs"

I think it needs more contrast, more "pop" to the B&W.
