I've taken most of my pictures on the wrong days. I don't think anyone really cares. That's not the point. The point is take pictures like this one that show us your world and sharing them with others. Hang in there.

This is very sharp with good detail, but the bright highlight behind kitty is distracting.
Did you try Shadow/Highlight and Levels? I find that works really well with harsh highlights combined with dark shadows. You can control shadows and highlights separately to even out the picture, then, with Levels, add contrast back in for a sharper image.
