we passed a steam festival on the way to campbelltown .. i wanted to stop and take photographs for the 'distance' or the 'from the ground up' challenges ..
on the way home greg pulled in and we spent at least an hour there .. it was very hot and i find that i cant get in the zone when i feel uncomfortable like that .. i didnt get anything for the challenges ..
i'm quite pleased with the result of the editing of this coz the original looked like a total loser ..
this is the loser ..

had polarizing filter on camera which gave me the intense blue sky ..
open jpeg .. lucis exposure on the mower and contraption etc but erased from grass .. noise ninja, sharpen, scale, lucis sculpture which i erased on the contraption and mower a bit ..
adjustment layers in levels, selective colour and colour balance ..
then i got that great colour by doing a black & white adjustment layer which CS3 has and doing a tan tint fairly saturated which i made blending mode hue at 87% opacity .. then i brought in a photograph of sand on the firetrail which i made blending mode darken at 59% .. created a new layer and did a white border using the brush and made 25% opacity .. resize and save for web ..

When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought this was a scene in a SF movie.
This looks wonderful, great processing!

WOW wow wow!!! LOVE your processing on this. You're making the machines come to life! Looks like something from an old sci-fi movie - Attack of the Steam Machines. Thanks for posting your workflow.

What a great testament to the life of machinery. I'm almost expecting these things to start moving around on their own. Nice shot and perspective, Roz.

Steam festival??? How funny that they have that. I love the treatment you did. Works to give it an old sunned and steamed effect. ;~D

I like the yellowish tones of this very much. Without the border and power lines, I could imagine this being a big wall poster at the Australian National Museum. ;-Þ
