The neat thing is that you're learning new stuff - some of it works, some of it doesn't, but at least you're learning. I've discovered that I often don't apply things as strongly as I could, mostly because I've been looking at the picture for too long to begin with. Try editing it with a heavy hand - go overboard. Save the PSD file and go do something else. Go back to it later and look at it again, and tone it down a bit and see what you think. (Not that I ever actually do this, but it sounds like a good idea.) |

Love the markings. Sometimes, I'll use a soft paintbrush and actually "paint" a deeper color as long as it doesn't look fake. You can also do a "replace color" and sometimes it works, but often times it doesn't. Harsh lighting is a booger to fix. |

Your model looks beautiful here and with some editing you can probably make a great photo from this. I recognize your problems with the editing, something it works well, but mostly it don't. |

Gorgeous shot! With the harsh lighting conditions we have here Charlie sometimes the only way if you have to shoot into the light like you have here is to take 2 shots..... one exposed on the cat, one on the background and layer them. Difficult though if you're not using a tripod.
I strike this all the time in the resthomes as the people are always sitting in front of large windows looking into the rooms. Can't move them round to suit me. I just make the best of what I've got and edit as best as possible. |

Charlie, I so know how you feel with the editing - i reach that spot of frustration quite often...got myself a book on PS which helps a lot. It is a wonderful image of Mercury ! |

This is very sharp with good detail, but the bright highlight behind kitty is distracting.
Did you try Shadow/Highlight and Levels? I find that works really well with harsh highlights combined with dark shadows. You can control shadows and highlights separately to even out the picture, then, with Levels, add contrast back in for a sharper image. |
