I have no idea what this picture is of, but that doesn't really matter at all. It's very sharp focus, with great texture detail. The background sky is textureless, but it's a nice colorful blue, so that is fine. I'd have to give this photo one of my highest scores of the week for doing a good job with the framing and focus of the foreground and everything else.

One thing I think you did well on this photo is the sky, followed by the moon or sun, as it were. I also like the light up in the house, with all of the other lights off, and the photo itself dark in nature. It's a very calming or relaxing picture, with just a touch of mystery from the house light, and a splash of light on the subject's face. However, although I think it looks good, I wonder if there is too much distraction by having the two light sources. Also, the airplane trail seems a bit of a distraction, as does the solitary star (?). It does urge you to look up, but with the way you have framed this picture so nicely, you don't need it. It seems excessive. The only other thing I felt was missing was the texture in the sky. I'm not quite sure why, though. It just feels like it is missing something. Overall, this is a fine submission.

Ooooooh! Very very very good! Sometimes I think that I am the only one who really appreciates manual focus - getting the foreground in heavy focus, and everything outside of that focal point blurry. Great great job! It took me a moment to catch on to what was happening, but your picture instantly grabbed my interest, and made me want to figure things out. Great texture on the hinge and padlock, and the door as well. The framing could have been just SLIGHTLY tighter, not too much, to keep the ceiling from filling up as much of the shot as it does. Nice overall :)

I think you have your focus reversed on this picture. The focal point of the picture IS the kite, but I think you need your up close string to be very focused and detailed, and the kite can afford to be blurry. The clouds as well - I'm not sure why you have them as sharp as they are. They look nice, but they're just a touch of sharpern or two removed from perfect, and have crossed over into distracting. The same goes for the rich blue sky... just sharpened one or two times too many. This picture is well composed though, and very creative, so that adds a good bit of points into it. Nicely done :) and fun, too!

Very colorful picture with decent framing. The sky looks a little bleached out (must have been a sunny day), but the picture is so filled with the flag and the green trees that it's not a distraction. I like how close up you got with the flag, as if you know what the flag feels like if you were to touch it. That's getting this picture some points from me. I also like how the plant life is out-of-focus, since it's not the focus. That gets points too. A solid effort overall. I wish I could suggest ways to help improve this picture. It definitely doesn't feel perfect, but I can't put my finger on how to go about making it better.

Hmm... some things came out well on this photo, and some things didn't. The looking up portion for the challenge is perfectly covered. The color in the picture is great - nice reds, blues, and greens. You have some great detail in the plant, with even a bit of fuzz for show on the tips. I don't like the cropping on this image, though. Your sky is plain (not your fault, obviously, unless you had multiple nice days to attempt this shot) and seems to show off scratches (perhaps from your lense??)... As well, the bug isn't really in focus. I mean, the image is sharp and detailed, not blurry, but there just is no real sense of texture to these objects, or depth. It's a good picture overall, don't get me wrong - there just is room for improvement.

This is for sure the best of the "about to be stepped on" genre :) Your plants are in sharp focus, your subject is clear and well-lit, and the sky is only a little bleached-out in the upper right section of the photo. I love how the immediate plant life is more blurry - good use of that manual focus capability!

You did a nice job on getting the color of this photo right; it matches the feel of the image quite well. You also did a good job of getting the subjects well-lit, and filling the entire image with texture - i.e. the hair on the legs, the paper from the pages of one book, and the bumps on the bottom of the other book. Even the wall and door have been captured well, despite their not being the focus of the picture. Great.

Holy cow! I love this picture. I love it to death! Rich green grass, a beautiful train dressed up in rust and moss... definitely one of the top photos this week, even if you're probably going to get knocked by others for not having a neck-craning angle of UP. Too bad you couldn't have gotten more color into the sky (i.e. taken the picture on a day where there was a worthwhile sky). That definitely would have added a point to the score.

Cute idea, and one I knew was bound to appear in this challenge. You did a great job of framing it, and also of capturing it. A friend of mine mentioned this as a difficult one to try when she attempted it herself. I can believe it. As for nits, I would have saved the picture-taking for a day when there was a better sky. If you had a better sky, then you did a poor job of capturing it. I would have liked to have seen the shoe more in focus than the rest of you and the tree, since that is the focal point of the picture, in my opinion. I also would have liked to have seen more lighting, so that you and your shoe aren't so poorly lit. I have no idea how you would accomplish that one naturally, though! :) Nice picture all around, and one that definitely fits the theme of the challenge. nice and fun! :)
