| 09/29/2003 11:13:08 AM | 'Time-out' at the Parkby tph1Comment: A cute picture of your kid, but not one that speaks to me of all kids, or my kids. The soft focus and the slightly over exposed image do not contribute to the picture. His awkward pose and the odd way his eyeballs are turned make the image uncomfortable. I like your composition, the circular window is nice, the muted dreamy scene behind it makes a nice contrast to the bright scene in front. The subject in the lower third is well placed. I also like the semi monochrome colors. Besides his flesh, the foreground is all blue and the background is all green. It almost feel like a contrast between past and present. 6

| 09/28/2003 02:41:23 PM | Lazy Dogby ashadisComment: This is one of the better pet pictures this week and I hope it doesn't suffer from the "I am so sick of looking at cats and dogs sleeping" mood that mus have come upon every voter. This picture is more that a pet picture. I has great lighting, wonderful textures, lovely wrap around composition which gives that surround-you-with-love feeling that is the essence of dogs. Focus is perfect, little details like the eyebrow hair add interest, the unusual looking up angle set it apsrt from a snapshot. This image has a universal appeal to all dog owners, it is not just a picture of your dog, but a picture of my dogs too. 8 |
| 09/28/2003 02:30:06 PM | More Than A Chip Shotby bobgaitherComment: Lovely colors, striking shapes, great contrast of darks in the foreground and pales in the background. I think the darker tree on the right is distracting and takes ways from the wonderful curve of the shoreline. But then without the tree, the composition would be too smack in the center to be a visual stand out. So I guess the tree helps balance the whole. 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/28/2003 02:23:44 PM | after reading...by imagesloyolaComment: What a powerful image! The pattern of the squares is dynamic, the floor contrasting with yet complementing the wall/door. the little boos stands out strikingly because of it's angle. The off focus works perfectly to set a mood. It is very interesting how the weight of the picture, the heavy guy, the heavy mood, is all in the upper left quarter if the image. Yet the strength of the visual patterns in the other areas is enough to balance the whole. I rarely see so much weight placed at the top of a picture, usually the weight is at the bottom. I think that is what makes this looks so unusual and so effective. I really love it 10 |
| 09/28/2003 02:16:27 PM | Taking a breakby JeanComment: Terrific colors, great picture. This is my third favorite!!! What an interesting scene - it makes me want to plaay detective - are those fish on the table? Poisson means fish, right? and that is a picture of a squid. Is it a fish market? the door is closed and barred. is it a window that props open to make a shop? The man is great but the setting makes him wonderful. He is all in shades of browns. His room is all bright colors. It makes him stand out in sort of a reverse way. Nice lines in the picture, I like the horizontals of the wall boards, the diaconals of the floor boards and bench. The angles of hs legs are mirrored, sort of, but the legs of the stool. His weight in perfeclty placed in the lower left of the photo, it grounds the image and balances the clutter of the rest of the scene. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/28/2003 02:06:42 PM | Watching the world go byby robsmithComment: ahhh... at last a photo that I really like. Now I am done witht he voting I can say that this is my second favorite picture. I love it all. I love the sunset colors that are accented perfectly with the blue. I love that the chairs are blue and the ocean is pink. I love the haze on the ater. I love love love the contrasting patterns: the curly fence, the choppy water the diagonal boards, the striped chairs. I like that the two people are looking at eachother, rather than out at the view, it makes the picture more intimate. I likw how all the leading lines point towards the center, drawing the viewer back in. the slanted deck seems to point left to the chairs, the shadows point towards the chairs, the blue strpipes point in, In fact, everything points towards the bag between the people making me wonder whether they are elderly travelers, where they are and where they are going next - tells an open ended story. I like that the picture is divided into horizontal thirds with most of the interest in the center third and the top and bottom playing supporting roles. I like how the boats are framed perfectly inside the spaces created by the fence. I like the feel of the warm colors, but that the people seem to ne wearing coats, a nice contrast of temperature that subtly backs up the temperature contrast of the soft pinks and the bright blue. lovely, just lovely. 10 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/26/2003 02:06:07 PM | Forgotten Beautyby SonifoComment: This is my favorite, and not just because it has no cats in it. It has a great feeling of calm, the colors are wonderful the graininess adds to the oriental mediative feel, The composition is well crafted, I especially like the leading line of the flowere stem which takes me back and forth from the light on the flower to the mysterious light that seems to be coming from inside the vase. the rogh vase on the right adds some weight to the image and seems to keep the flower from tipping over. Lovely 10 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
