It was actually a candid shot... I had gone out for ice cream with my girlfriend and my friend Scott. He had just received his order at the next window over when I thought that the textures of the wall, floor, and his feet made a very traditional feeling composition, and snapped off a shot.
I post-processed it a good bit to give it a definite "aged" feel, but without the sort of cliche sepia or a simple vingette. The image in my head when I composed it was definitely a muted, thick, brush-stroked feel ala Rockwell (good catch, irispetra).

| 06/24/2004 06:11:56 PM | Final Approachby Kha0SComment: By the way, in response to a number of posts here, I just snapped this shot from my window on a 737 (Southwest Airlines, landing at BWI on my way down to Norfolk, VA on business... breaking the "no electronics" rules! tsk!).
The original shot had a few more cars, and obviously, didn't have such stark contrast. Using levels and curves, I was able to force the entire ground area to disappear into almost pure black, while bringing the lines up and saturating them. I then went in with the clone brush and cleaned up the lines on the road (all of the cars except the white one had faded away to near blackness, leaving "holes" in the lines).
Finally, cropped it in a little bit to balance the composition.
The original is over here...
Thanks for all your great comments!

| 06/22/2004 12:05:12 PM | A Selective Benchby ScantyNebulaComment: Clean composition, strong detail in the wood grain, and good use of perspective. Perhaps being more aggressive with your desaturation in the grasses and on the far shoreline could have strengthened your vision. Similarly, removing the few grass bits that are overlapping the bench in the foreground would have isolated the bench some more. The border seems a little out of place.

Managed to finish in the top 10, so I'm certainly very happy. I'll post more tomorrow, but I'm headed to sleep right now... thanks for all of your votes and comments!

The lines of the image definitely pull you into the tent, making you wonder what exactly they do in there...
