I'm not sure what this is, but the subject and the background are out of focus. The subject is also not well-centered in the frame. It's difficult to frame a round object in a rectangular format sometimes... = 5 - jmsetzler

Aperture within the pier

This texture shot is quite nice.. I love the diagonal. The only thing i don't like about the image is the bright subjects that are visible in this hole.. maybe this is some of the pier supports... I know you had no control over that either... the level of brightness in there is much brighter than any other part of the image.. this being the case, it is a bit of a distraction and it does draw my attention away from the beautiful texture of the wood around this hole... still scores well.. = 8 - jmsetzler

this is definitely interesting texture. I think the shell is slightly over exposed... the lighting is a little overpowering and it is creating a few harsh shadows as well. This particular photo may be an example of where some minor diffusion of the flash would be helpful. You can accomplish this by trying things like bouncing the flash off the ceiling if your flash tilts... if not, you could tape a small piece of tissue paper over the flash... = 6 - jmsetzler
