IMO there is a big unbalance in your picture. the lighting is very harsh. this shows in the reflection on the jar. the butter is so bright that it's overwhelming and overpowering the rest of the picture and makes it looks darker than it actually is. The majority of your picture is bread-brown. Having 2 counter-points, the red jar and the bright butter, unbalances your composition.

my first impressions: nice and warm colors; the butter in taking away from the bread (less is more); a bit more light bounced tothe bottom to separate the slices; the same for the jar (a slight reflection of light would separate the jar from the background). good composition.
