Do you have the ability to change the White Balance on your camera? I think that would have helped tone down the initial redness of your first picture. I know that I resort to black and white when my color shots don't work lol. Also I think you need some more light on your face (in this photo). Ooooh - the thumbnail sucked me in on this one. Gorgeous! I love the gold against the cool toned background. Also it's like an optical illusion back there with the pillars kind of obstructing the depth of the area lit on the right. It's like - does it continue or not? Really beautiful composition.
