Do you have the ability to change the White Balance on your camera? I think that would have helped tone down the initial redness of your first picture. I know that I resort to black and white when my color shots don't work lol. Also I think you need some more light on your face (in this photo). When I need to do that, I follow the steps in this tutorial: linkie

I like this MUCH better in B/W. You might try a little dodging & burning around your eyes to bring them out a bit more. A little more levels adjustment might increase the tonal range too. Still I think this is a much preferable version of this shot (which I do like for its casual relaxed attitude and composition). |

If I may say? I do like the colouring of the B&W better. I am not fond of the crop. It makes you seem crammed into the frame or forced somehow. Your eyes are in total shadow here... try moving a table lamp behind and to one side of the camera :) Keep it up! You are doing great! |
