i noticed the blury bits in the grass in front of the building and wondered about them .. i then looked at your original .. then i read your processing steps .. probably a nit pick coz its a great image now .. :)

it is a brilliant shot ..
you've totally changed the feel of your original with this very 'sharp' and gritty process ..
altho if you were going for a more juxtaposition feel maybe giving the grass a more 'natural' appearance so it contrasted with your more harsh building might achieve that better ??..
i totally love glamour glow in color efex .. it gives grass and stuff a beautiful soft but still natural feel, depending on your settings of course .. its the glow does it i reckon .. altho i havent got cs3 open at the moment to make sure its 'glow' i'm thinking of .. its the slider above the saturate one .. !!!

i'm not sure about your crop, but that's probably just me .. i'd be inclinded to take in a lot more of the scene than the crop you've chosen .. the encircling buildings, the construction going on and then this island of growth which looks soon to be deleted ..
the sky is ok, but you could bring in some more dramatic clouds .. i've been madly taking photographs of the sky when there's something good to shoot .. i must look like an idiot with my camera pointed up into the sky without any land in the shot .. but i'm getting a great folder of sky/cloud shots that i can use to beef up a sky thats in need of 'improvement' ..
something threatening would go excellently with this scene ... to intensify that feeling of insecurity .. where there's building going on the natural land is definitely threatened ..
there are so many ways you could go with your original .. its so not dismal at all .. !!!..:)

hey neil .. i love the colours you've chosen .. the yellow in the sky is stunning ..
i also love how the grain is so much more obvious in the wood in the fence ..
the crop is great and gives more drama ..
it is quite grainy but that isnt always a bad thing .. it makes me think that there are very very small particles of snow still present in the air ..
wot confuses me is that cloud that looks more like a small twister, only the wrong shape .. !!!
it looks almost like the snow is rearing up .. a very weird effect ..
i can totally understand why this is one of your favourite places .. it would change each day and give you so many different photographic opportunities .. i'd be watching out for the weird snow tho .. it might be coming to get you .. lol ..
i'm usually a bit careful making any critical comments coz i'm so aware that its just my opinion .. but i cant think of any 'improvements' to this .. 'improvements' being something that often just comes down to a personal opinion when regarding art of this calibre .. :)

& i've thought of something .. !!
i would'v liked to have seen where the fence finishes on the right hand side of the photograph rather than how you've cropped it out .. just so you can see how it curves around out'v sight .. its just the tiniest bit less crop that i'm suggesting .. :)
