Marinaby cogeroxComment: well i posted my last comment and decided to google 'stark' .. i was thinking along the lines of contrasty and rugged sort'v .. this is wot i found out about stark ..
"The meaning of the word stark is bare or barren
The word stark has had an interesting history. Originally it meant "strong" in Old English (and a very similar word still does in German), it came to mean "utter" and then through confusion with another OE word meaning "rump" came the phrase stark naked which is an emphasised form of being naked (naked being naked, after all). Stark also has connotations of spareness and lack of detail, as in "the skyscraper stood out starkly against the backdrop of forest". "
so it wasnt quite the word i was meaning after all .. altho strong comes close .. |

The Road Less Traveledby dafletchrComment: hi again deborah ..
my mistake .. when i made my last comment i thought you were saying that the title of the poem was 'the road less travelled' ..
i did google it .. found out its actually called 'the road not taken' but near the end is the line 'the road less travelled' .. all a bit confusing .. :) Message edited by author 2009-06-07 07:08:51. |
