Spectral Morning by hesitantComment: Originally posted by Kroburg: Lovely shot, quite differently from the other entries. Great light and shadow. Congrats on the Yellow! |
Quite different than the other entries in this challenge, but all too similar to this great shot (below) by h2 from just a couple months ago. I can't help but compare the two, and the quality of light in his is far superior. h2 set the bar pretty high. You have a fair bit of the image that has gone into the darkness void, whereas in his shot, the shadows have detail. I don't think you can bring up the exposure here either, because you have whites that would blow out.
When I think of "morning," I don't think of an image that's quite so contrasty. I think dreamy and fuzzy. The image you produced looks more like an evening scene.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled with the image you produced if I had shot it, but there is room for improvement. I don't mean to rain on your ribbon, I would have said the same things a week ago had I gotten around to commenting during the challenge. I also know that it's not really fair to compare two images by two different photographers, but I can't help it when they're so similar.
Congratulations on your ribbon.

Superdome by HeiSchComment: I think your drop scene is actually better than Irene's. The difference is that she's got a knack for keeping it clean. To me yours looks oversharpened or something. There's also some banding going on in the upper right corner and some other minor blobs elsewhere. Melethia makes a valid point about the rectangular reflection. I agree with her that you probably could have cloned that out with no issue in verification.
I would be curious to see your original on this. I think you have the winning shot, just that you've done something odd in post. |

Mushroom & Three Cheese Pizzaby IAmEliKatzComment: Eew, your pizza has fungus on it! :P
As for the image, it's not very clear what I'm looking at. The focus is on the crust rather than the mushrooms (eeew!) that I would consider the subject. |

A well constructed and powerful image. |

Flying Jewelby karenkComment: This is beautiful. I wish there were more separation between the background and the hummingbird (more of a portrait feel), but beautiful none-the-less. It looks like you may have tried to do something like I'm suggesting but were wanting to keep it subtle. I'm curious what your background actually was. I hope this doesn't get DQ'd for removing a background. |
