I try not to be too critical in side challenges, because most people are experimenting with new techniques. Was there something specific you were trying to accomplish here?

With macros lighting is something people usually tend to explore. What kind of lighting were you using? I agree that the lighting for this is harsh and doesn't seem to add to the scene. If you mention in your comments what you were trying to do others will help you create that. Ask us, we will answer!

Some would say they want more detail, but I think photos like this have their place. It's quite soothing and would work great hanging in a bright sunny room.

Giraffe - CLOSE up

My eye keeps going to the green, which is throwing off the balance. If it were me I'd probably lower the green saturation. I love how the frame is full of giraffe face.

As for it being macro or close-up, I think that's about as macro as any of us are going to get with a giraffe, so I doubt you'll hear any complaints, heh.

I like the processing and deep vignette. It amps up the tension in the weather that may have been just a drizzle. The same goes for those water droplets on the lens. Almost like you're fleeing from a tornado or some other form of impending doom.
