The Loopby signal2noiseComment: GeneralE: this is one of those polykiwi shots. unnatural.
sher: but the man is moving in a circle.
GeneralE: but then he walks through the wall and faces himself. Not natural.
ursula: no, he looks in *first* and *then* he decides to go in through the door. Finally, he circles around to the window, where he thinks about he was just outside looking in. Memories are natural.
scalvert: thought processes are not natural. Only Newtonian physics is natural. This is so unnatural it isn't funny.
ursula: I think it's kinda funny. Look at his expression in the window. And look at that cute dog! |

Stage Leftby mpetersComment: GeneralE: this is unnatural. a step is missing.
muckpond: he's going out for food. it's totally natural!
GeneralE: how do you know that?
muckpond: I can tell by his expression.
scalvert: it's clearly a staged shot. the next thing he's going to do is turn around and pick up his camera. Not natural.
sher: it's natural. It's raining so you lift an umbrella. What's more natural than that? |

Dare Devilby JaimeVinasComment: GeneralE: this is more complex than the single swing of a golfer.
ursula: yes, but it's still one lovely line of motion.
GeneralE: but it intersects itself, cuts itself in two.
ursula: but by the time it gets to itself, it's not there anymore.
GeneralE: clearly you know nothing about topology.
scalvert: the photograph incriminates itself. Clearly there is someone flying this kite. That person is using muscles, will, thought, etc. to effect the flight pattern of the kite. It's not natural.
ursula: It's the wind. The wind is natural. She's just holding it to create the proper tension to allow the wind to work on it.
scalvert: but that's an unnatural method for portraying natural phenomena.
ursula: so is pohtography. |

Making my pointby apashackComment: karmabreeze: this is definitely natural motion. It is the triggering of a massive karmic wheel.
scalvert: the finger is relaxed on the trigger. Therefore the motion is not due to Newtonian's Law of Equal and Opposite Motion, but rather a simple flexing of the wrist muscle. It is not natural motion.
ursula: This is a staged shot with motion planned by the photographer. Therefore it is not natural.
sher: But people are natural. Thought is natural. If this person thought to jerk his wrist upward, then that is as natural as a leaf falling.
scalvert: don't be ridiculous. It's obvious that premeditated acts of will are not natural.
muckpond: he's taking somebody out. That's totally natural!
scalvert: but it's staged.
muckpond: all your shots are staged.
scalvert: yes but never in a challenge that demanded natural motion.
muckpond: what do you mean? your shot in THIS CHALLENGE is staged.
scalvert: yes, but it is a staged occurence of natural motion. I have certifications from three independent physicists. |

box and bottleby chipesqueComment: the lighting's great, actually. and so is the composition. sometimes a shot like this transforms into pure image. you don't quite transcend being a bottle and a box of tissues, but you come close. I gave it a 6. |

Clairby xianartComment: Wow. Tremendous. And what a great title. I love it when a photographer understands his/her own photograph.

ennuiby nixterComment: some photos are poems. This is a novel. Or a Raymond Carver story. I don't know if the title describes it. I don't know if any title can describe it.

Veiledby TezComment: kinda dpcish with the sharpness and the offcenter composition with darkness to one side, BUT... the eyes are closed, the face seems almost in decomposition, the face is looking away from the darkness, which somehow justifies its inclusion. I'm intrigued. |
