Pelican and Pier #3

Love the detail seen on the flapping wings! This action shot has some very wonderful sharp details in the wing and body of the pelican. The tones and contrasts are great - the pelican really pops off the background of the sky. The only small nit is that the top portion of the downstroked wing in the foreground detail gets lost on the dark backdrop of the ocean - the tones are almost the same. Not sure how to make that stand out a tad more aside from mayhap using dodge very sparingly. Other than that this is a great capture of a pelican in mid-flight.

Very nice shot Sandy. Love the tones and contrasts in this composition. It is probably me or mayhap I am just staring at the tranquil waters that that these canoers are treading, but I see a slight blueish cast to the photo - not a problem if it does exist, for it adds to the peaceful serenity that is captured here with the two boaters taking a break from the hustle and bustle symbolized by the cityline in the background. The photo has some nice sharp details too. Lovely reflections in the water and the sky is just wonderful!

This is such an adorable portrait of this child! Love the tones and contrast. The sharpness of detail is great from those big adorable eyes to the bubbles running down the cheek. My only critique is that I think you can crop the left 1/3 of the photo for it is just empty space that does nothing for the composition. The tighter crop on the face will keep the viewer's attention focused on the child's face.

Oh this is beautiful! Love the play of light that really picks up the shine & highlights in her hair. Tones and contrasts are captured beautifully - especially on her skin. Detail, lighting, and composition is just wonderful. Lovely capture of this little girl with a pondering expression. It makes me wonder just what she is so intent in thought about.

I absolutely love the crop and the border choice. The border gives an impression of a 'widescreen' view but we get an especially close-up view of the cow as she stares back at us. Clarity/details of the face is wonderful - look at the eyelash detail and those wonderful black flecks of color on her white striped portion of her face!!!! Love the black & white tones of the cow really pop in this photo - contrast of subject and capture could not be any better.

Love the sense of motion here. The man is a blur but that motion seems very appropriate to the mood here - a dark running man feel; a man in motion running from dark thoughts or his mood is dark as he runs from his emotions. Also by lucky capture (or planned) the clouds seem to radiate out from the center of his position in the frame thus helping draw the eye and keeping it focused on the moving man. I like the dark contrast and tones here for it adds to the mood. While I said that I get a capture of a dark man running I also get another 'story' capture from looking at this image. A ghostly figure that we only get a glimpse of as it passes by from the corner of our eye. If we then look full on at the scene I get the feel that the 'ghostly' figure would just vanish. Nice job with mood and lighting, I get two 'stories' from studying the photo.

The grain level is a little too high - I can see where use of it would add a feeling of a days gone by mood when placing the mood in relation to the old architecture of the buildings in the shot but too much detracts. The sky looks blown out in spots - either a gradient, levels or some burning will tone down the blown contrasts.

Wow, the level of detail is stunning. Great job in capturing all the lovely details on this dandelion - right down to the exposed stem from where some seeds have taken flight. Contrast is excellent. The white and lighter tones of the dandelion really pop off the dark background.

What a wonderful candid capture of these twin boys (if they are not they look an awful lot alike)! The one on the right is in more detailed focus than the boy on the left I think a higher F-stop along with a slower shutter speed would increase the DOF. The contrast and tones are excellent. And by happy accident (or planned) I like that each child is wearing a jacket that is highly contrasting to the other (one light, one dark). Love the candid expression - they are looking intently at something just off camera. That also draws in the viewers attention for we wonder just what are they looking at.

Absolutely great composition and perspective! The cat's paw batting at the camera really pops out and pulls the viewer's attention into the composition. B&W tones and contrasts are great too and the sharpness of details are wonderful too right down to the 'eyelash' hairs.
