Lovely sunset photo. When I first saw this and knowing the challenge theme I immediately saw the framing however, voters didn't. So in the future you may think about hitting the voters over the head with your what you are trying to convey. Now I don't always do that but it's something to keep in mind.
As for the photo itself I like what you did here. Good color, the lighting is very nice and you got some excellent silhouettes. What I don't like is the traffic light but I understand why it's there. Maybe next time find something better to frame that part like say an interesting overpass or arch? Having something solid like that would have also given voters a more obvious frame to see. |

Is that really a TV or a cutout and some circuits? Really cool concept here and the execution came out well. I like the lighting and the composition works well for the subject.
You scored well but I think if your emotion was more "over the top" emotion your score would have soared higher, IMO. In other words, be more angry, get out of your chair and look like you are about to smash that tv rather than just looking annoyed. I would also move in closer just a bit so that you filled more of the space around you. There's a lot of empty space which I think hurts a bit.
Other than that this was a winner. Congrats and good luck in the future. |

haley2.jpgby CalliopeKelComment: Very nice. I like the background being blown out a bit but not so much the hair. Shadow/Highlights would work great using just the highlights adjustment on the hair. Looking at it briefly in photoshop there appears to be some detail you can pull out of those highlights and what you can't can always be fixed with the clone/heal tool and maybe blend in that so you keep the lighting consistent. Anyway, just a tweak suggestion nothing major. Overall, I like the style you acheived. |

Congrats on a personal best. The technicals are all good and most important the idea was a winner. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for improvement since it works perfectly as is. |

Please! Just Eat the Green Stuffby GunnsiComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
This is unique and somehow you made something not interesting, interesting so good job there. The composition really kicks butt, IMO.
However, since the masses didn't agree I must now find lots of faults with this. :P Ok, you already know about the sky/background so skipping that I think having the girl in focus would have really helped a lot. Also, catching the horse's mouth open would have helped hammer home that this horse is indeed eating! I don't know why but voters I'm learning are like little children who need to be handheld every step of the way. I think you did a great job of that with your Take Two entry.
So in summary, have a better sky/background, girl in focus and some eating action and I think your score would have improved by a good margin. Message edited by author 2006-06-23 04:30:49. |

Shadows of your dream - Fantasyby GunnsiComment: Greetings from CTP2
Congrats on your personal best. The execution is much cleaner this go around. Also nice touch with that duality of fantasy vs reality conveyed with the background. That really hammered home the idea to voters who couldn't get it the first time. The only thing I feel held this back from winning was the reflections and flare. I'd probably just use backlighting only for this type of setup. |

Naturally Textured - Take IIby DigiFotoBuddyComment: Greetings from CTP2
I think you improved this shot in the wow factor category. It no longer looks like a snapshot compared to the other one. It's bold and in your face. However, there are some things I prefer in the original. For example, the sharpness. I think you got it right in the original but here it feels oversharpened. Maybe I'm wrong but this type of texture shouldn't look that sharp, IMO. The other thing is the background color. I liked the black background better than this bright red version, which just makes the image seem too bright in general. Still it commands your attention better than the original so good job improving that. |

Indulge into happinessby DigiFotoBuddyComment: Greetings from CTP2
Looking at the color version I definitely like that one better for the fabrics but overall I like the duotone version better because it takes a busy scene and keeps the focus squarely where you want it (i.e. your faces). With the color version my eyes drift all over the image too much and everything becomes a distraction. However, with that said I think the color version may have worked better with DPC voters who crave that.
Well that's it. I wish I had some real critiques here but I like this image. I think the technicals are great. I love the lighting and the composition and the layout. It's also very sharp and it has good tonal range and lots of detail which I love. I think you did a bang up job here. I certainly can feel that moment you captured and the duotone helps to convey that. Message edited by author 2006-06-23 03:52:58. |
