A Bit Rushedby RebeccaComment: Well, the motion blur is nicely captured, but the subject is just a bit too ordinary. It may have been able to go the abstract or geometric route if you had cropped so that the upper left concrete (which is a nice contrasty color to the rest) took up a perfect quarter of the picture and was squared off. Otherwise, I think you did about as much as you could with this shot and it was ultimately just the subject choice which limited you. |

LOOKS LIKE AN EARLY SATURDAY NIGHTby brimacComment: It's nicely captured motion blur, but ultimately the picture doesn't offer too much. It's too simple. Maybe if we had some chips, a beer, cigar, or some thing else for us to wander over with our eyes.
Edit to say I PROMISE I didn't read the comment below. It's just funny that we listed chips, a beverage, and a cigar in the same order. Message edited by author 2006-07-05 16:02:15. |

Joyby puzzledComment: Man, she's hauling at 1/13th. ;) I like the shot a lot. It may have been impossible, but I'd like to have at least one part of the girl sharper. Hopefully the head, or even the skirt, but something for the eye to latch onto. That being said, composition and colors were great. I didn't really even notice the vertical fence which you worried about. I'd have scored it a 7. |

No Skateboarding Allowedby timfythetooComment: You know what you are doing Tim, so I'll keep this brief. The picture would have scored a great deal better if the stop sign were sharp. I know that's small, but I fully believe if it were sharp you would have had a killer image here. I have it as a rule that if the object has writing on it it needs to be either totally sharp or totally out of focus. The eye HATES blurry writing. Hates it, my friend. You only made it worse with the selective desat drawing attention to the pictures deficit. ;)
Composition is excellent. I love the way the skater appears mainly frozen while the board is what is moving. That's a great touch in my opinion. |

Flowing Awayby wavelengthComment: OK Steve, just ignore the score on this one and never look at it (the score) again. I love it. You know as well as I how literal DPC is in its interpretation of challenges. "But the flower wasn't supposed to be moving."
I would have scored it an 8 or 9. |

The Tao of Flightby L1Comment: 5.0? I'm a bit surprised here. Two things, IMO: One, the motion pan was pretty good, but not excellent. We see blur in the head and we wish it was sharper leaving the motion to the waves (from the pan) and the wings (from the longer exposure). Two, perhaps a smidge more contrast, but I'd have to see that one to see if it's better. This is a low contrast shot, but it may actually work. The pictures, based on the title, is looking for a very fluid feel and the low contrast may have been to your advantage. The composition is excellent. Ultimately I think it was the blur of the head that got you. |
