while taking the photo.................original.................an outtake...

My dad and I headed down to Chapman Beach on the 24th of June to shoot some glass photos. I was equipped with two light bulbs, and a flash light. He brought down a mirror and a glass ball. I tried a shot with the light bulb and he was trying a shot with the glass ball. But I played around with light bulb a bit longer thinking I could still create something else of interest. And my dad went down to the ocean and shot the image that got 5th in this challenge. I came over to shoot the glass ball after the sun went down and got this shot, but when we compared photos after we got home, I realized he had the far better shot.
Sooooooo, we went out again on June 26th, but down to a place south of Haystack Rock. My dad had the shot he liked so I just shot away with the glass ball, and ended up with this.

I'm really excited to have scored third since I've never gotten a yellow ribbon, and now one of my DPC goals of scoring all places 1-10 has now been completed.

Thank you for all your wonderful votes and comments.

Call me a nerd but this totally brings to mind the Palantri of Tolkien's Middle Earth.

As for the photo itself, absolutely beautiful. I am very intrigued as to the real size of the sphere, I know that its visual equivalence to the rock is an illusion but I wonder by how much (bowling ball or marble). Either way, very nicely done.

Lol, Zoomdak I presume. Did you bring a buddy for this shootout, I think I have already voted on a shot with the same glass ball :) Anyway, this is much nicer, well composed and has great tones in it, hard to give it lower than 8 so that is what I did :)

Edit: Bumped this up to 9 :)

what and where is that? On technical merits alone this photo does well--it's interesting to look at and has a nice texture. I'm guessing this is done with perspective to make the glass ball look larger--but it's very well done. Nice colors of the sky reflected in the sand as well.

Awesome reflections with those true colors of the coast at sunset :) Lovely way to put the sun into the heart of the floating glass ball, even though Japan is the "land of the rising sun" and this sun is obviously setting. Hope this places 3rd! 10
