Challenge: Motion Blur II (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Location: Garden
Date: Jun 25, 2006
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/13 s

The fence in the background made some distracting vertical stripes, but it was too much to try and clone them all out. I really think this might bomb, but it's got such great (in my opinion) colors and motion that there's a wee bit of hope the voters may feel the same :-) Well, I guess we'll see - provided I don't chicken out and withdrawal the entry right away! I used a monopod and followed the little girl with the camera while she ran around. Post-processing: little bit of levels, lots of curves, little color balance, USM, and Smart Sharpen. Cropped and saved for web.

Nice one Amy. Definately deserve better than this. Nice motion blur here. I gave 8 to this one.

Whew! She is bookin' it! People wonder why I stay small...I have three of these little rug rats to chase around! First of all....I LOVE the colors...they are very bright and cheerful. You definatly have captured motion, thats for sure. Your cropping is also good. Like others have mentioned, I also agree that at least a portion or two of the girl in focus would have improved your score. I would have liked to see her big smile as she runs around. I still feel that this is a great capture and fun photo.

Man, she's hauling at 1/13th. ;) I like the shot a lot. It may have been impossible, but I'd like to have at least one part of the girl sharper. Hopefully the head, or even the skirt, but something for the eye to latch onto. That being said, composition and colors were great. I didn't really even notice the vertical fence which you worried about. I'd have scored it a 7.

Love this image! Totally agree with Judy and Brad below, this should have done so much better.

This just screams of happy and the true liveliness of a child.
Shame this didn't do better and in my opinion should have.

I love it Amy! It conveys the energy and happiness of a child. It's perfect!

You did great on this!

P.S. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that thing about 2nd-guessing my photos and going back and forth about the chickening out part :) I feel better now :)

Normally this type of photo would need something in focus to make it look intentional, but the horizontal blur elements really make this photo work.

Now this is a good example and use of motion blur. Wonderful how you can convey a sense of emotion within this kind of shot.

I've given the same basic comment on quite a few shots -- my preference (as I discovered while looking at a number of these blur shots) is for a sharp subject. When there is no sharp subject, my eye wanders around trying to find something to focus on. It happens less on your shot than many of the others -- I think because there is plenty of contrast between the girl and the background, and the blur on the girl is not overdone. Perhaps just a difference in artistic preference.

That's pretty, I almost wonder what this picture would look like if the arms weren't moving. It looks good, though :-)

This pic really conveys the speed and joy of a young child. Just wish her face were a clearer.

Wonderful shot.
I think the processing is a bit harsh though. I would have liked it softer (just as opinion).

OH how fun. This has a susi quality to it. Love the vibrant indigo color of her skirt. Nicely composed too. Great image. 10

I have a real problem believing that this motion blur was created in camera. I absolutely LOVE this image, but I have to vote believing that this was created in PP. If you did this in camera then please accept my deepest apologies.
