Color Saturation and Hue: Colors and Hues are realistic, nothing is over saturated.
Brightness and contrast: Overall brightness is well done, as is contrast.
Focus and depth of field: Focus is nice and sharp. Depth of field could be more shallow to help isolate the subject from a distracting background. A wider aperture opening would have helped with this.
Subjective: Photographing under leafy trees is difficult, as can see by the lighting variations across the subject. There are a couple of spots that are distractingly bright. The upper arm and base of the throat, are pretty bright. The lighting variations can result in a mottled appearance. I can't tell if she is on a hill, or leaning, but the background makes it look as if she is on the side of a hill. On the other hand, the plant next to her, makes her look like she is leaning. I also find myself wishing her left arm was not cut off.
I'd really like to see this redone with a little different pose, and not quite so centered. This has the bones of a very good picture, and your model has a great smile. |

Tim - Winter Burn Offby GregoryBComment: Critique Club Review:
Color Saturation and Hue: Colors and Hues are realistic, nothing is over saturated. Skin tones are excellent!
Brightness and contrast: Brightness is well done, as is contrast. The black of the hat holds detail well for the most part. Near the back it gets hard to see the detail. As others have noted, the shadow does distract a bit. Where this is advanced editing, this would have been a good time to equalize a bit, to reduce the effect of the shadow, allowing a more even lighting effect.
Focus and depth of field: Focus is razor sharp. Very nicely done. Depth of field is used well to separate the subject from the background. Though the background may be a tiny bit too soft. The flames make a very nice color pattern, but I wonder if the voters, who move through images pretty quickly, never noticed the nice big fire back there. A little more background detail might have sold the fire a little better.
Subjective: Very interesting image. I had to look a bit to see the fire, but other than that and the previously mentioned shadow, this image is one that holds the viewer's gaze. Your son makes a very good model. The pose, his self assured gaze, and the clothing all work together. Very nicely done.

Head Shot by scalvertComment: Just a "toss-in-photo"? Makes me hate you even more... ;-)
Congratulations on very well deserved first place finish. A thoroughly enjoyable image, and one I could imagine seeing on the wall in several types of beach/surf related businesses. |

Jame Gumb's Sneakersby h2Comment: 10 for being able to do this in basic editing. It would be so much easier to shop this in. The bits of lint detract a smidge. But to pull this off in basic shows some real creativity.
My favorite of the challenge. |

It's all about the kind of shoes you wear!!by MiepComment: To tell you the truth, I'm a little put off by the age of the models. I'm going to give it a 5, but it would have been higher had it been more age appropriate. The model on the left comes across as way to young for this. |

Minty Freshby colorcarnivalComment: Very nicely done! Congrats on the top 10.
Green was the perfect choice here. I love the contrast and detail on the water drops. |

Turtle Exhibit Billboard by LydiaComment: Dang! With a Capital "D"! You are getting pretty darn good at this ribbon stuff.
If the San Diego Zoom ever does host a turtle exhibit, they would do well to buy this image. Very professional looking, and makes me want to go to the zoo. Our zoo only has an Armadillo, an Opossum, and a Duck. ;-)
Very nicely done, and well deserved. SD Zoo should put this on a billboard, even if they don't have a turtle. |
