Yes, the voters here are very predictable. Started at 6.7, went up to 7.28 with 25 votes, stayed above 7.1 for the next few votes -and then some people must have thought this was a winning shot. Down to 6.7 again with 2 votes. Asshats! Downhill from there to 6.3 and then a validation request. Could I be so stupid to ignore the rules and then NOT clone out the lint? Darn!

Day later, the image was validated and - whoops, the score went up again (slightly). Hope this trend holds...

[Jul. 10th, 2009 01:31:31 PM]

It doesn't. Alltime low at 6.345 now :-(

Obviously I couldn't name it "Buffallo Bill's Sneakers", I think there was a more famous men with that name...

[Jul. 11th, 2009 02:44:06 AM]

I'm REALY pissed now. 6.27? Probably the validation message makes the voters look closer and see the little flaws that would otherwise have been overlooked.

[Jul. 13th, 2009 11:10:26 AM]

Back up to 6.30, and then, when you think it can't get worse - bang, vote #168 takes me down to 6.244. Must have been really low. I estimate having got 6 1s, 4 2s and 4 3s now

[Jul. 13th, 2009 11:19:47 AM]

In addition, someone lowered his score, so now I'm at 6.23.

Post challenge: A lot more low votes than I thought (plus those cleaned away by the scrubber). I just don't get it.

ETA: I'm over it now. Thanks to all you generous voters and commenters. Here's the "Expert editing" version:
.
How I did it: Cut the zippers in shape and drawed the seams onto them. Cut off the feet of a black pantyhose, leaving small triangles at the front. That's where I sticked the zippers with double-sided adhesive tape. My model slipped into the pantyhose and I taped the lower part of the zippers onto the feet. Surface is black muslin. Lighting is flash on 1/2 power with umbrella from front left, silver reflector on right.

You know what ? I think I actually prefer this version to your 'expert editted' version.

I think the slightly grungy look works better for a footware idea, as though these have been out and been used - while the others (understandably) look more like feet.

Good work and nice set up.

i was one of your 12 10's before it got validated - specks of lint or not (which can only be edited out in advanced) this is an -amazing- take on shoes ;) if u had titled it something like 'all natural' i would have been in stitches laughing - as it was i was giggling when i saw it because I was really hoping to see something fun in this challenge when i started looking thru it... this thumbnail jumped out at me! :-D ;) sorry for the belated comment :-) But major kudos on this pic -- don't mind the trolls they cant help it ;) and yeah they do get on everyone's nerves... Lookin forward to seeing your next entry! :-)

Brilliant! Congratulations on an honorable mention. What a tribute in a challenge like this!

Oliver, this is a fantastic shot, definitely ribbon material and so very creative. Can't understand the 1,2,3 votes....

I love creative shots like this. It shows how thoughtful you are, this is great artistic problem solving that you were able to fool people into thinking it was a digital effect! You should be proud :) AND, this would be a cool poster.

You're like Adam from American Idol … we know you should have won … almost too cool to win. Remember Daughtry? Same thing. Great image, especially in basic.

Clever and well executed, but by gosh, you whine alot! :-) Seriously, don't stress so much - it can't be good for you.

My top vote. Congrats on your HM.

I had this for a ribbon. Considering it's basic editing, this is a great shoot with execlente technique. Congrats Oliver.

My guess is the sub-4 votes were pre-validation and I am beginning to think there is much credence to the idea that many voters are not voting as if it were legal. I guess that's a chance you take with a shot like this. It's not original, but very well executed, especially for basic! Congrats on 4th!

I'd love to see how you did this. Sorry, but I'm an idiot. I think I gave you an 8, but I didn't vote enough shots for the 20% for it to count, so mine was one of the ones scrubbed.

I am also surprised for those low votes. As said during voting, this a perfect dpc-oriented approach. In this case the average vote from participants (6.58xx) is higher than avg from non participants, so most likely this time most of those insane low votes did not come from people trying to beat your image. Congrats on the HM!!!

This should have ribboned, IMHO. Great idea and execution, Oliver.

Very clever and beautifully done. Ought to have ribboned. How anyone looks at this and gives less than a 4 is beyond me. Great work.

Great idea, I'm shocked by the number of sub-4 votes. I can only guess that they did not consider this footwear. Well done.

10 for being able to do this in basic editing. It would be so much easier to shop this in. The bits of lint detract a smidge. But to pull this off in basic shows some real creativity.

My favorite of the challenge.

Probably the most creative shot I've seen so far, though I did see a similar zipper over skin thing here about a year ago. I had to look up Jame Gumb. I would have remembered Buffalo Bill. Very nicely done. There are a few white spots on the black background, but other than cleanup before shooting you couldn't do anything in Basic editing.

a well done 100%-dpc-oriented approach...a 6 for image itself and +1 for creativity and dificulties involved in the setup and execution (including shaving) +1 for standing out of the bunch....8

Very creative. This must have taken a little time to set up. Those white specs at the bottom of the picture should be edited out, but it's a basic editing challenge so I won't take a point for that :)

Although this resembles Magritte's work, it's creation without advanced editing is really good. Funny title too, but that's more like boots :))

LOL. This is too morbid I think for most...and will (luckily) probably go over a lot of people's heads regarding who Jame Gumb is... definitely original and good job pulling this off in basic. I assume you stuck the zippers onto your model feet and then made it look like blank space using velvet or felt on top of the shin.
Couple specks you could have been careful about, but they are pretty small.
