| 08/24/2002 10:34:00 AM | Hopeful Thoughtsby fsieradzkiComment: I think we all hope for that. I lost a friend in the WTC. He was on the 70 something floor in the first building hit. He was one of many still considered "missing". Brad Hoorn, Richland, Michigan 22 years old. That said, i hate to say anything at all bad about this, but the lighting on the top is a tad too bright for me. It kind of almost washes out the word "we". The angle is great and placement is good. I might have tilted it slightly to the right to make the words horizontal and taken a bit more time to line up the words. Otherwise, very powerful photo. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/19/2002 11:26:00 AM | Rays of leadby CoreyComment: Visually impressive. Nice color arrangement, great lighting, and in general pretty cool. That darn blue pencil to the top left snuck out a bit farther than the rest, as did the green pencil directly at the bottom. But you know what, I tried something like this, and it was hard to get it perfect, especially when you are only going by eye. Not sure if you were trying to center it perfectly, or offset it on purpose, but if you were trying to get it centered, it should go up slightly and to the right. Great shot and good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/24/2002 12:53:00 AM | wind mill pencilby arippsComment: You should enter this in the childhood challenge. I remember doing this in elementary school and then we went outside to see if they would blow in the wind. I remember it being too windy and all the windmills kind of just folded in half. Anyway...This is the only pencil windmill that I saw in this challenge, so I think you hit the mark with originality. The focus and lighting are good and the angle is ok. I might have either tried to get it exactly up and down, or more crooked. how it stands, it kind of looks like you tried to get it straight, but couldn't. Nice job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/19/2002 05:30:00 PM | Hand Drawn Handsby sohrComment: This is very nice. Lots of photos of pencils drawing stuff. The angle is great. I love how the hands seem to spiral down like that. I wish there wasn't a large shadow there. It's kind of distracting. Focus is right where it needs to be. Is there a reason for the lack of color in the hand? Nice shot and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/19/2002 09:44:00 PM | Hanaby muckpondComment: This is very beautiful. The lighting is just right and her skin is very very smoothe which creates a pleasing subject to look at. I think it may be more sensual if she were wearing some kind of soft cloth such as sick or rayon instead of what looks like a towel. Yup, I see pencils! I could hang this in my livingroom. Great photo. Good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/19/2002 04:34:00 PM | Pureby PatellaComment: The color, or lack of color kind of bothered me at first. However, I think that with the title (and brand of pencil) it is kind of cool. Pureness is usually reflected by white. Although this isn't white, it's close, so it does have impact. I am curious as to why the background is clear at the top and out of focus at the bottom. Not that it matters much, just curious. makes it look like it was taken at a strange angle. I also can't wait to find out how these shots were done. Great shot and good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/22/2002 12:13:00 PM | Pen Envyby KarenBComment: Great idea. They seem to be fighting. I didn't notice the pen in the thumbnail version of this photo. Was this a shutter speed trick? I wonder why it left the blue in the pen in only that one spot. Oh well, it doesn't matter, it's still a cool photo. I like the angle and the lighting is great. Gets a little bright up towards the top, but I think that just draws your eyes back down to the subject, so it works. Great job and good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/25/2002 11:39:00 PM | Disappearing Actby mciComment: I almost did something like this myself, but I couldn't make the pencil look like it was added in photoshop. I had a photo up on my computer screen and placed the pencil in front of my screen and tried to take the photo. however, mine came out looking like a really bad dub job in an old cartoon movie. Ever seen Labyrinth? That's how mine looked. Anyway, great job in making this look presentable. I like it very much and it shows creativity and originality. lighting and focus are great. good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/21/2002 10:24:00 AM | It's All In The Anglesby CPatteeComment: i'll admit, I'm still trying to figure out if this is a really enormous pencil, or if it's a really really detailed model car. I'm guessing on the big bencil though. But what do I know? Everything is appealing to me on this. The angle the photo was taken, the great idea, I like the lighting, the background with the beautiful tree is great and the reflection in the car is even growing on me. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/21/2002 10:51:00 AM | Form Precludes Functionby sjgleahComment: hehe Definately original. I like your execution of this. How it is on the notebook, at a good angle and the lighting all make it a very nice photo. The color of the desk and the color of the pencil are similar, which brings the entire photo together nicely. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
