Looks spectacular, although I actually feel that the striking setting overpowers the nominative subjects, and makes this a photograph about something else ... light? ... architecture? ... photography? Whatever, it's impossible to overlook, and will do well in the voting. 5

Gone to get fuel for the mower, I hope! Interesting photograph, made especially so by the person (is it mother?) in the background. I like the dark, gothic tones, but not so much the theatrical processing of the sky. 7

This is a nice photograph; better than some I've voted higher. It's interesting and visually appealing, and a clever, effective composition. My only problem is that, notwithstanding your efforts to the contrary with your title, it's not about family. At least not to me. The fact that the subject is a member of a family, even if it's YOUR family, doesn't make it an image about family. I might have voted it 8 in another context, but in this one, 6.

Not everyone's idealised family scene, but the unselfconscious, intimate chaos does unmistakably say "family". Not a beautiful image, but effective, and a lot more memorable than most in this challenge. 7

Ancient Celtic Roots

Good metaphoric image/idea & good photograph. It's strange; as I look at these tangled roots I can just about see glimpses of people in there, or at least bits of people. Arms, torsos, etc. It's a very organic sort of image. Oh dear, no more whiskey for me tonight. 8

Love the title, and the nostalgic feel of the image. It's one of those rare family "snaps" that's actually a lot more than what it first appears to be. A beautiful tribute to your parents. 8

It's a terrific photograph. Title aside, it doesn't really suggest "family" to me, but I don't care about that at all. It is a wonderful, exuberant pose and a casual yet meticulous composition. Best of all, it's a great idea for a memorable image which I think both photographer and model will treasure forever. 10
