Composition : I've always been a big fan of diagonal lines, and there are plenty here. I like the lines on the shore paralleling the lines of the branch, which oppose the reflection of the branch.
Exposure/Lighting : As others mentioned, the tip of the tree seems overexposed. I wish there was shutter speed / ISO / Aperture info so I could remark on why I thought it may have happened.
Focus : I don't see any problems with the focus. Well done.
Post Processing : I was wondering if you considered this shot for a Black & White? It has all the elements of an image that might do very well without color.
Emotion/Challenge : On first glance, I have to admit, I was lost. After some thought I realized that motion didn't mean dramatic or even fast motion and that the ripples on the water definitely meet the challenge. Way to think outside the box :)
Opinion : Peaceful, relaxing motion. Great slant on the topic. |

Composition : As others mentioned, slanted horizons can be a little distracting. I didn't have a problem with this one, in fact I personally thought it added to the feeling of motion. My nitpick with the slant is that you may have wanted to bring the car up a little higher in the frame. If you are showing downward motion, you might want to give the eye more "down" to look at. You did this very well with the placement of the car on the left side so it could travel into the shot to the right. I was just thinking a little more room on the bottom for the same purpose might have been nice. (As with all comments, this is just my opinion and not necessarily right :) )
Exposure/Lighting : The image is just a tad overexposed to my eye. Not massively, just a little. The grays are kind of muddy and you don't have much in the way of true black.
Focus : This is a text book example of panning. Excellent job. The trees are identifiable and the car is nicely frozen. I especially like the motion on the wheels.
Post Processing : While I think this requires a little tweaking to give richer tones, I have to admit that I have no idea how to do it :) I hope you understand what I mean.
Emotion/Challenge : Definitely no problem here with respect to the challenge. Well thought out and well executed. I assume the title has something to do with "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" but it was lost on me.
Opinion : Good concept, well executed. I just wished for more room on the bottom and somewhat richer tones. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Composition : I have to agree with the other commenters that the tilt of the floor distracts. Also, finding a way to eliminate the "seam" of the wall and the floor would have helped tremendously.
Exposure/Lighting : The upper right hand background has more light than I think you intended. I got more caught up in the texture of the background then in the motion of the bulb.
Focus : I love the sharp focus on the threads in the bulbs starting place. Excellently done.
Post Processing : B/W was a excellent choice for this shot. It seems a bit grainy, but I like that aspect :)
Emotion/Challenge : You met the challenge and more :) Very interesting concept and extremely clever use of title. (Some folks say a title doesn't matter, I say some folks are wrong :) )
Opinion : This is a wonderful concept and I hope you revisit it, make a few small changes, and share the result :) I find a piece of fabric sometimes is the best background since it can be seamless... No tell-tale line where the floor ends and the wall begins. Just a thought :) | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Composition : The inclusion of the still woman with the stroller definitely made this shot for me. She is placed perfectly. Also, the inclusion of the ride operators "inside" the motion worked very well in my opinion. The empty space at the bottom concerned me and I have to wonder if you had shot from a lower vantage point, could you have included the stroller (an important element to me) but excluded the not so interesting ground under the carousel? Just a thought :)
Exposure/Lighting : Again, the only issue I have is with the ground. It is so dark, especially in comparison to the lights of the ride, that I wonder if the shot suffered for it.
Focus : Excellent job here. The sharp focus of the "mother" watching the ride plays excellently against the action blurred ride. I especially like the timing that placed what appears to be an older child holding an infant. The infant and the "mother" seem to be making eye-contact. Wonderfully done!
Emotion/Challenge : Absolutely nailed it. Great shot!
Opinion : I was surprised to see this place 37th. I thought it was going to be much higher (although 37 is nothing to sneeze at). Great effort! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Composition : The eye is definitely drawn deep into this image. Very well composed!
Exposure/Lighting : In this respect, I had some issues. The sky is blown out while the near trees are almost pitch black. However the lines created by the blackness does add a lot to the feeling of motion. I just wish the sky could have been less over-exposed. I truly doubt you could have done anything differently to improve it though.
Focus : Focus is not an issue in this shot. The blur is very well done.
Emotion/Challenge : Definitely nailed the challenge. Also, the emotion of the shot is unmistakable. Outstanding job in this respect. |

It's a wonderful shot, just not really on topic. |

| 12/16/2002 04:17:51 AM | Faithby arnitComment: This is a very nice picture, but I think you misunderstood the challenge. I'll try during the week to think of how this could relate, but I don't hold out much hope... |
