| 06/01/2005 12:22:24 AM | Sunriseby AmyComment: Beauty is a subjective thing, I know. In my scoring and comments I'm trying to score based on NOT whether or not I would think a particular subject beautiful, but on whether the photographer has succeeded in creating a beautiful photo. I look for the elements of color, lines, focus and dof interest, lighting, and a certain element of grace and lovlieness. I'm looking for a unique and creative appeal for the highest scorers. The description says to create a photo that makes the viewer think "that's beautiful", so it will undoubtedly be very subjective. (This is what I'm putting at the start of all of my comments, and I hope it is helpful.)
That being said, I think this photo could be improved in several ways. First I would either capture more of whatever that right hand branch is attached to, or get it out of the photo altogether with either a different angle or clone it out. I think there is too much dark foreground adding nothing to the interest of the shot. I would cut it by about half. I know you're shooting into the sun, but I would like to see a bit darker exposure and use your editing to bring a bit more richness to the other sky colors while reducing the sun brightness some. And also, having both the horizon and the sun centered so much doesn't add any composition interest at all. I hope this is helpful. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, nice subject here. She sure has some whiskers! :) I really like the time of day and the lighting and I like the movement of the mane. Just doesn't seem to have any "wow" factor that makes me think "beauty". | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, I really like peonies and this is lovely. It suffers in the challenge IMO from not being very unique or creative. It's a competent flower shot, but the straight on angle just doesn't make it special. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, this is one of my favorites so far. I'm not a fan of selective desat, but I like it here a lot. The whole concept of media and portrayal of beauty is captured in a very creative and unique way. Perfect placement of her "peeking" between the buildings. Good job! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, I like the creative take on the subject. Might be more appealing with a few drips down the side or some frost on the glass...but I'm not a drinker so I don't know for sure! I would really have liked some more lighting at the bottom of the photo. Good focus and color. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, this looks like a lovely location. It also is probably more appealing in person than the photo actually shows. It just doesn't seem to capture anything particularly interesting imo. Maybe if you picked up a bit more detail in the dark foreground, it would help. |

That being said, I think I might find this more appealing in person. The tones here seem really hot and arid. The large grouping of trees on the right rather dominate the photo and don't add a lot to the appeal. I would have liked something with more view of the water. For me, though, those orangish tones are the biggest drawback to thinking "beauty". | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, this is a cute subject and beautiful in nature. I do think the photo suffers some on the technical aspects. The face seems out of focus with some rather odd glaring sort of lighting. There also seems to be a purplish tinit that distracts from the doe. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, this is a lovely subject, but I don't see it as being photographed in a particularly unique or creative way. Colors are nice, but the composition seems to suffer some, imo. I would crop the right side to totally get rid of the dark background and a lot of the blown out white on that side, and focus on the wonderful colors of the interior portion of the bloom. Focus also seems a little soft, which may have been intentional, but if it was I don't think it adds to the photo. Really pretty flower to photograph. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That being said, this is a wonderful capture of the eagle in flight. Nice dof, very nice light and colors. Certainly a majestic and beautiful subject. I keep wondering what was around it, as the vertical crop seems a bit severe, but there may have been a reason for that. One of my favorites so far. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
