The size of the shot doesn't unfortunately do the subject(s) any justice.
I can barely see the child's joy at playing with the cat, his face is in shade and the long grass in front detracts.

Sad title. The backlighting doesn't do the shot justice, colours are washed out. On the plus side the emptiness of the lake adds to the feeling. The man and dog however have each other!

I don't see an animal? Only an invertebrate...Nice theme and setup and menacing spider but the model, if truly afraid, would be keeping an eye on the spider, not the camera (my opinion). B&W PP is great as is DOF and contrast. Yes, I know that all creatures big and small are part of the 'Animal Kingdom' :) I did not however vote it low.

Your dog is your best friend. Good to get him also looking at the camera. Shot meets challenge, but too much noise from the low lighting for my liking however.

Not in the true spirit of the challenge imo. Animal is not alive or even stuffed. Saturation poor and street through window detracts from shot. Sorry! The only similarity I can see is that it's a man made representation and fits the challenge in that way. Bumped one more point.

Classic afternoon horse shot with backlighting. Good exposure control to allow me to see some in-shadow detail. Subjects are a bit too distant imo to give more impact to the shot.
