Hello, your shot has been chosen for my Daily 5! This is where I choose 5 shots per day (or close enough) from the Recently Uploaded list that do not yet have comments, and comment on them.

Such a fun, amusing, and spontaneous moment. The wide-angle feel and the sharpness where it needs to be just pops this shot out and says, "look at me!". So look I did, and I was not disappointed. This is a dog that, despite the restraint of the leash, looks as though he believes that the world is his.

A portraiture that belongs among some of the best I've seen, and knowing that it is now a part of a treasured memory, I am sure that this takes a special place in your life.

It's amazing, sometimes, how much wisdom and age can be exuded in the looks of the young, as if there is some hidden force within that has returned from a previous existence, and is screaming to be let out. This child, while still remaining so sweetly innocent in many ways, still gives us a look as if to tell us that she knows, oh yes, she knows, and she'll be ready for when her time comes.

There's a simplicity here that defies the norm, and sets this shot apart. It's the sort of shot where you think, "This should be boring, it's just a plant", but then you find a few minutes have passed, and you're still looking at it, and you can't for the life of you explain, entirely, why. There's a bit of nostalgia, perhaps, with an effect here that invokes magazine photography of the 70s, and transports the mind of one that was a child in such times back there. Whatever it is, it is one of those rare moments when the mundane takes on a persona that transcends, a little bit.

The Gorilla, like most great apes, is often seen as just another animal, yet every time I see one in pictures, I stop to stare. For whatever reason, they always strike me as having a greater humanity than even we, the humans, and sometimes I feel a tearing in my heart for the tragedy that it is we that rule the earth, and not they.

It is a solitude that sometimes passes us by, all around, when our minds are usually so focused on our hopes and dreams and fears and anxieties and the world that forces so much on us. Yet, for whatever reason, sometimes we notice that solitude too, and you have captured here a part of that. The quiet and emptiness that is never truly empty, yet with a motion and dynamic that brings it to life.

The joy of performance and lending yourself to musical pursuit, in an effort of satisfaction and enjoyment, presented with a clarity and simplicity that makes no excuses and offers no distractions.

I am always impressed when someone can take the absolutely mundane, and turn it into something worth looking at. The experimentation can be fun, as well, and while I tend to lash out when shots and set-ups and images like this win ribbons and get front-page exposure, it's less because I actually like shots (and I know this didn't win anything itself) like this, but more because I just wish more diversity would be seen.

Now, I'm rambling, and I don't know why. All I wanted to say was that I enjoyed seeing this, and that the thumbnail pulled me in. Nice job changing the every day into the not-so everyday.

My first thought when I see this is an instant heart-tugging. I'm impressed with the theme here, which few would have the guts to do. While I'm not a religious person, the tie in to the angelic fall from grace, tied to the curiosity and inevitability of the loss of innocence that is waiting for all of us as we make the passage from childhood into other stages of humanity, is still quite profound. The grasping hands, which are almost invisible at first, almost suddenly and painfully become a part of awareness, and when we see this adorable child, who seems completely unaware of the dangers and uncertainties of the future, and instead seeming absolutely anxious to discover them, on the very edge of darkness, the body shudders.

What is awaiting her? Do those hands represent ill-intent, or are they helping hands, only wishing to guide her to a new beginning? Is the darkness 'evil', or is it merely a representation of the unknown? Will the light follow, or is it merely there to begin the descent, to fade away as the steps go further down the flight of the stairs of life?

Only that child shall know, the angel of our beginnings, whether she brings her innocence with her, or whether she leaves it behind to become the demon of what is to come.

This is a nicely emotional 'family' portrait that breaks through a few cliches to be just interesting and unique enough to stand out a little. Closer inspection shows a few technical flaws, but nothing that won't be corrected through simple practice, and moving to better lighting control. There are what appear to be focus issues, with details being lost and or muddied due to it, or JPEG compression, I can't really tell which. Regardless, it would make a mirthful and pleasant christmas/holiday greeting, and it's nice to see people not afraid to be a little less serious for such things.
