Curtis 1264 edit 3by MelethiaComment: I like this one the best for a few reasons:
1) The sunbeam is clearly exposing the boy, which makes this intersting. Perhaps a guardian light of some sort.
2) Since the tones of the pier are closer together, its much easier to follow and adds a strong sense of depth to the photo. In the color one, the different colors just add too much chaos to what is a natural direction of the pier and the pier becomes lost with the metal tint.
3) Finally, the details of the water are more clear. This gives a nice contrast to chaos below, order above. |

Curtis 1264 edit 2by MelethiaComment: I'll be different. I'm not so sure I like the filter used here. In comparison to the B&W one, the cast seems to take something away from this. |

Week 2: Back Bayby tinky2Comment: What is really neat in this photo is that you have captured a vanishing point. I'd exploit that. You clearly have fore, mid, and background elements to this photo. The fore being the boats, mid being the water and island on the left, and back being the mountain range in the back.
Pull down the contrast to darken the sky (you could do a multiply of the same image. Then add a ND gradient for the mask.
Add contrast to the boats with curves and reverse the same mask.
Finally, crop it horizontally to bring out the sense of depth in the photo.
Something like that.
You could also try a BW conversion through a monochrome channel mix, or even a duotone version. Message edited by author 2009-01-11 11:49:59. |

Beach-people-copy-Sand-boys.jpgby jomariComment: I agree about the frame, but only as far as the effect is concerned. The color is a nice match to the photo. Looks like a little color NR would help. But otherwise, its a nice focus from the original. |
