This is one of the many forest shots I took in Maui a while back. I never could get them to look the way I wanted at that time. I tried HDR, desaturating, all sorts of stuff and everything was ugly so I forgot about them. Well, I've gotten some new plug-ins and actions since then, so thought I'd try again. I went for a vintage look this time around. I'm pleased with the results, so I'll probably be doing a few more!

Processing in CS3:
Crop image, then crop again using the perspective tool so I could bend that outside tree toward the center a tad more
Color Efex Pro Tonal Contrast (increases contrast)
Silver Efex Pro B&W Conversion
Virtual Photographer Ambience filter (makes it soft and glowy), with sky and trees masked out
Paint with white on layer in soft light blend mode, to highlight ferns and path
Run action vintage photo. Does a great job of making an old-looking photo complete with edges, but it puts it on a big ugly grey background, so... cropped background, changed color and added canvas texture
Create frame-looking thing with stroke

The transformation from the original is nothing short of amazing. You certainly achieved the vintage look you were going for, and this makes me want to go back to Maui.

Wow, what a makeover! I especially like the way you brought out the highlights of the foreground ferns (great compositional element, those) and the path. Very nice work!

Very nice artistic treatment -- a good use of the chosen effects.

Ooohhhh. I like this. I wonder if this could be duplicated without the special filters? Probably, but it would be tough.

To be honest, I am a little mixed about the photo. On the one hand, I like the 1800's jungle feel to the photo, reminiscent of old safaris. On the other hand, I like the original, and all the greenery in the photo. I guess its not a bad thing if I can find reason to like both :D

You have turned this into a stunner. I love the antique feel to it, and I love the soft glow to the sepia tones.
