lens flare seems a bit over done, but otherwise this is great.

fantastic. Clean, simple. great. I'd love it more if the quotes were rotated properly to frame the camera

This is a cool shot - great detail on the bee - though the saturation is hurting my eyes :)

Btw ,the 70-200L _is_ a great lens for doing close-up work... Just because it doesn't say macro, doesn't mean it can't be used (I have an entire book on macro photography that only mentions macro lenses for about 4 pages) I've taken some nice macro of flowers with it.

All 70-200 lens for the close-ups

CC: great, simply great. You've isolated the subject really well - enough to tell that it is a succulent / cactus and yet removed any wasted areas around the shot. The spikes are sharp and in focus - which compliments their sharp nature well - a shallow DoF wouldn't work with this at all. The flower details are great, and you've captured it with good flat lighting.

CC: This seems very contrasty/ sharp - I'm not sure if that is a result of your camera or not. I like the simple composition - although I do feel it is a bit reed heavy, and could do with some more water in the frame. This sort of shot can look absolutely stunning if taken around sunset, with the sky colours reflecting in the water behind. A good subject choice.

CC: A fantastic subject choice. Great framing to get this close. Wonderful lighting. Need to find a better/ less scrappy looking leaf though. This has wonderful potential if you can find the perfect subject with the same lighting. Also, I wonder if framing the spine not quite on the main diagonal would be more effective so that the shot has a 1/3rd one side/ 2/3rds the other side arrangement, rather than perfectly split the way you currently have it. Great ideas.

CC: A good macro, but overall very dark. The background flower makes this feel upside down - did you try rotating this at all ? You've captured the colours in the petals really well, though I feel over all this is a bit underexposed as they whites have come out quite grey. The exposure compensation features of your camera could help with that if this was not intentional. Good entry.

CC: well congrats on the placing! You found a great non-flora subject, and took this at a good time. The light falling on the foreground head really sets it appart from the rest and you've used the DoF well to isolate it further. You might have been better filling the frame slightly more, and losing the 1cm or so of green border at the top, though that's marginal. The almost horizontal and light piece of grass in the background is a bit annoying. Great entry.

CC Fantastic macro. Good lighting and colour choice, though it feels upside down to me. Have you tried looking at it rotated 180 degrees ? I also wonder if a more slanted composition would be a bit more dynamic. Perhaps with the ends of the stamen slightly more inside the picture frame, as they seem a bit cramped at the edges.

Awesome - I've been trying to take a shot like this for a couple of weeks now.

Good detail in the skin and well framed. The only real problem is the light green region in the background which forms a weird merge with the head.
