South Indian Monkeyby FalcComment: Nice light and shade - I like how his face is in the light, with lovely catchlights in his eyes, but that overall he's in the shade. |

Proudby arbil14Comment: Shallow DOF works really well to isolate him from the lovely lush green background. I like the pose he's in and the detail/ light in the eye. |

Land of the Buck by AlexSaberiComment: Beautiful silhouette - I like the way you've included a trio with the nearest one also being sideways on. Works well. |

winter blues by ursulaComment: I missed this one when skimming through the entries to comment (but not vote). I'm glad it's presence on the home page alerted me to my loss. It's a beautiful image, lovely lighting, lovely composition, lovely colours and lovely bokeh. Congrats on the ribbon, Ursula! Message edited by author 2006-01-19 18:06:09. |

Days Gone Byby L1Comment: This definitely evokes the idea of an era gone by. It's quite melancholy in that it also implies that the strengths of that era have been discarded and are no longer cherished. I like the purple flowers and fence. I'm not sure the dark tree line adds to the shot. I'd also love to see this taken during the afternoon when the sun casts a much richer colour of light onto the image. |

Three's a Crowdby CalliopeKelComment: Nice staged portrait that really conveys a theme. I keep tilting my head when I look at it - I think rotating a touch so that the verticals in the wall are vertical within the frame would help. Composition, lighting and content all work well. |

Focusedby L1Comment: What an interesting shot. I like the rotation and the shallow DOF works well to isolate the main subject. Unfortunately the focus just isn't sharp enough on the main subject to really make her leap out. |

Just Waitin'by kevrobertsonComment: Nice picture - I like the positioning of your main subject in the foreground and then the rest of the crowd being part of the background. Glad you didn't opt for too shallow a DOF as you'd lose all that interest from the background. Lighting is too harsh and contrast too high for my preferences. |

Focusby elsapoComment: Nice portrait - great lighting, shallow DOF works well. Although having her looking away does speak "candid" more strongly, I think the shot would be a knock out were she looking straight at you (or seeming to). |

Eye Contact by jjbeguinComment: Great eye contact. This really captures the essence of a crowd... Not sure the top third of the frame adds much - I like the lower two thirds on it's own far more. |
