Hi Ursula,
A very technically sound photograph. Your timing (Sun), Your setup position here hit the mark (Nailed it). I don't think the photograph would have had as much impact in any other position. Your choice in using the bridges guard rails as your leading lines entering and exiting the photograph are also very well done. The details through out the entire photograph are to be commended especially on the shadowed side of the guard rails. These could have gone over looked and lost without anyone really noticing (my complements) on this point. I really like the balance in the light & shadow's ties in very well with the concept of the photograph kind of like the good (sun) & evil (shadow). The low tight angle here gives the photograph great depth, looks like your looking out for miles (excellent). Your position relative to the bridge and the tree give the photograph a marvelous sence of scale. I also like the way you caught the reflection from the guard rails down onto the bridge planks (caught light) if you will giving us the details in the planking. The sky portion of the photograph is also well done, I very much like the way the color mells together here from the nice golden into the blue. The Cloudless sky works extremely well here, in fact I think a cloud or anything in the sky here would have actully hurt in this instance. The use of your title & text here work real well here tieing the whole photograph together. If there was anything I would have considered here and it would be just that was the words being done in the golden color of the sky blending the entire photograph into one. Over all this was a well thought out, well composed photograph. This is a sellable photograph !!!. Would love to see this shot in both color and B&W with snow. Again my complements on this photograph know dout taken by someone that loves photography and takes pride in her work. Again VERY WELL DONE.

Ramevi,
The composition of the photo is lacking. Concentrateing on a single orange or two with a few leaves would have helped out here. The light here is alo very strong, it completely overwhelmes the photo. A softer light (back or side) would have gotten your point accross a lot better and gave the photo some warmth. This in turn would have helped connecting your title with the photograph. Also by concentrateing on just a few oranges along with the light would have enabled you to get some detail which you lost because of wide angle used here.

Be Strong
by Konador

Comment:
Hi Konador,
The left lower quarter of the photo is quiet hot. It's not your exposure but your lighting. Possibly to strong, or you caught a reflection (bounce) off of the white in the seen. This caused you to lose detail on the edges of the domino's at the bottom. It also caused the same effect on the one domino right behind the last one standing. It looks like reflection (bounce) to me. Changing your angle to the light or using cheese cloth or something to defuse the light would have helped you out here both with the details & the hot spot there in the center. Two things I see that are of some distraction. The blue background momentarly grabs the eye pulling it away from the domino's. Lightening it up a bit may have helped here. The other distraction are the black lines on the edges of the standing domino's. They are just out of place with the rest of the photograph. I am assuming they are either a highlight or string to hold up the domino's in either case they detract from the photo. All in all this is a well thought out photo. The composition is very nice, the take on the domino's with your title works well here.

Well I didn't like this photo when I looked at it this morning. Didn't like it when I looked at it this afternoon, and don't like it now. I am sorry but this is a bad photograph made worse by the attempt to fix it in photoshop or some other imaging software. The compositiion of the photo is ok but it's down hill from there. Though it fits (bearly) into the challenge the first thing that comes to mind when you look at this photo is commercial not macro. The lighting is way to strong here a much softer tone is needed. The photo is over exposed by at least 1 to 1 1/2 stops. The top of the lipstick container is washed out as is the top front of the cap. The shadows in the picture just do not match the lighting. No matter how you use the light (angles/strenght) or even fill flash the shadows just do not match. There has been a lot more image editing and enhancing here then the photographer states and it is all bad. I could go on here and type for another hour but it would prove useless. The photographer of this photograph knows what was done and clearly understated it in there comment box. How this got the score it did is beyond me. I would have to rate it a 1 or 2

Peper study in B&W

Hi Kos,
Where they got 4.9852 from I don't know. From a TECHNICAL stand point this photograph is about as good as it can get. The leading line takes you through the entire photograph from top to bottom, side to side. The eye follows this line with no distractions yet lets you see all the little details, the seeds, the motion in the water. It allows you to see the transition from the outer skin of the pepper to the fiberous pulp inside, and holds all it's detail. The use of DOF (upper left) allows for a very smooth transition allowing the viewer to see the rest of the pepper in silhouette without being distracted. The composition of the photograph (seeds) give the photo scale. The position of the pepper (angle) give it depth, and the motion in the water give it life. The over all composition (filling the frame) was very well done. The combination of lighting and the choice of b&W give this photograph an added touch of mystery and work extremely well here. If you are a begginer put this photograph in your favorites and study it. It is a fantastic learning tool !!. Well done Kos !!!.

Shoval,

Composition...The composition of this photo is really lacking, remember the rules of third's. Very few photos work with a subject being centered. The position of the butter fly leaves you to much room on either side making it a very busy photo (top & bottom) this leaves you in a very bad positon if you need to crop & here you need to crop big time. The back ground of this photo is very busy making the eye roam. The color scheme of all nutral coloring hides the butterfly making it very hard to focus on your subject. Also the butterflys wings being open would have helped alot.

Exposeure....This photo is over exposed by at least 1 or more stops. This caused you to get a mix of all nutral colors IE 18% gray through your entire photo. Adjusting yor exposure by 1 to 1 1/2 stops would have given you separation in your color (true color). This also would have reduced some of the glare you have on some of the rocks. This in turn would have given you details in the rock which you lost because of the glare. The butterflys wings being open would have made them a bit more transparent adding greatly to its color.

DOF...Better use of DOF would have helped you out here allowing you to take out much of the busy element of this photo and allow the viewer to better focus on you main subject.

Cropping....Cropping this photo at both ends would have helped you with your composition. It would have enabled you to move the butterfly off center. It also would have allowed you to remove a lot of the busyness from the background (top & bottom).

Challange.... I see where you where going with this and if the butterflys wings where open emphasizing on the wings it would have worked, but the way the photo is now it doesn't work.

Hi Rc,
It's all there as far as I am concearned. A very technically sound photo. All of the elements I look for in a photo have a very strong presents. I like your use of the curved peninsula as your leading lines taking you in and out of the photo. The fisherman & dog are well placed giving the photo a sense of scale. The curve in the banks give the photo life. The back drop of water & bushes give the photo a great sense depth. The reflection of the bushes give the photo a intimate aspect as a private relaxing fishing hole (excellent). The ripples on the water bring life to the entire area giving the viewer a sense of truely being outdoors. The color & detail though out the photo are well done. The photographs over all composition is fantastic. There are 4 minor problems I see here. 1) the bush left of center next to the rocks is a little blown out.2) The rocks leading up the hill in the back ground are also blown out a bit.3) the water to the left of dad there is a tweek hot.4)The red spot to the right by the shadow line. It is probably the bobber attached to the fishing line but it stands out to much. A polarizing filter I beleave would have corrected these very minor problems. Over all this is a fantasic image know dout taken from a very talented photographer. It was well thought out and every consideration was given to all it's elements. The photograph tells us a complete story not part or half it's all there. A job well done all the way around Rc.

Hi OneSweetSin,
The black & white works really well here. The tonal ranges are just about dead on. Not an easy thing to do with a digital camera. The tight cropping though a bit tight also works here because the child is sitting the ride is finished. I must say it is not often you see a photo that captures two completely different elements, 1) The sled meeting the Travel challange & 2) an excellent Portrait to boot. Well done !. What also works here is the soft focus in the face of the child it gives the viewer a sence of crisp cold air. The only thing I can see in the photo is his left arm from just below the shoulder to the elbow gets lost in the snow. This however I do not beleave is any fault of yours, It seems the angle of light, arm & snow just blend it all together. Over all this is a photo you should be very proud of a job very well done !

Steve,
The B&W works well here. But from a compositional stand point it could have been vastly improved by simply having the young lady turn her head more to the camera. If you look at her head you have very nice detail along the hair line, her browe & eye lashes. The water on her face shows very nice detail also. As we move to the right however you begin to lose all detail of the hair to the point that it is a black blouch. You also begin to lose detail in the water the futher down and right you go the worse it gets to a point that it looks like your lense is dirty ( see the white spotting pattern of the water ). By turning her head more to the camera this problem could have been avoided. The water, slowing down the shutter speed would have given the water a sence of motion giving the photo a sence of life. This photo looks a little flat because of the (freeze frame) stopping the water. The piece of teflon tape on the shower head is a bit distracting also. If possible try shooting that same shot giving the water a sence of motion and using the strong details of the eyes, browse, and hair line and you will see a huge difference.
