I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: DPC is full of cat shots - but this one transcends indulgent pet sentimentality and delivers an unexpected killer punch. The bird on the TV(?) and the transfixed kit is just delightful and the monochrome on colour nesting of the two images works brilliantly.

Critical stuff: Nothing

Overall: A really well seen/constructed image.

Positives: This feels like I've turned a page in an art house photography magazine - perhaps 'Color'. The image is bold, highly communicative but still obscure. We are left with many questions. The toning is perfect and the crispness of the rendition adds much, as does th reflected sky.

Critical stuff: I suppose in the end, the mystery of the image frustrates as much as it it delights.

Overall: A highly intriguing and well-made image.

Positives: Ben, I know this is yours but I'm not letting that exclude me from commenting or scoring. I love how relaxed this is - it makes me what to take a deep breath; it feels like a warm evening. The blurry ducks are amazing - just enough form to remain coherent. I'm particularly fond of the trees in the background and how they seem to be illuminated. Of course, your daughter is so important. Like a catalyst, I feel she doesn't take an active role in the image but none of it would work if she were absent.

Critical stuff: I'm not sure I like that lighter area below the wall of the left edge of the frame.

Overall: Marvellously understated stuff.

Positives: Great perspective and contrast - the rushing figure makes me wonder what he is leaving behind. I like how you have created a clear impression that his head has been cropped.

Critical stuff: I'm not a fan of the halo around the figure.

Overall: Great vision, well executed.

Positives: Reminiscent of a pigs head poking out of the coat (though my wife doesn't no matter how many times I try to point it out). I also get the image of him standing on the terraces of a football (soccer) ground. I like the greenish colours and the grain too.

Critical stuff: Nothing of note.

Overall; An image you can have a conversation with. I like that.

Positives: The horns of the shadows are magnificent, they get lost on their owners so the shadows rescue them from obscurity. I really like the flare at the top of the frame too. The overall feeling is quite joyous and a little bit chilly!

Critical stuff: Nothing really.

Overall: A lovely shot all round.

Positives: Composition over clarity - I like that. The washed out nature of the contrast, the utterly understated strength of the structure and the (nearly) negative space make for a most effective image.

Critical stuff: Too well balance to suggest any changes - I imagine that if you changed the slightest thing, the whole image would fall apart.

Overall: A stunning example of how an image can be more than the sum of its parts.

Positives: Great sense of texture here and articulation with the world. The marks are almost like a forensics story. I'm also intrigued by how flat it looks - the title implies a 3d structure but I struggle to discern it.

Critical stuff: Minimal in the extreme - I don't think it has enough visual critical mass to get going.

Overall: Bold FS entry.

There's a lovely shot under there but the framing does nothing for me.
