i'm not religious but i thought this was a great photo and should have ranked higher. you should be very happy with it

That's smoke in the background but it's hard to tell. I wish I had lit the cross better, as well as open the aperature a bit more to include more of the foreground in focus. And yes I did put the chain in an infinity symbol on purpose. I know my Bible!

what is at the far endo of the chain? Did you use aperature or was this a macro shot?
04/28/2002 10:12:00 PM
What's the transition?
04/28/2002 05:16:00 PM
dust! dust that surface! :)
04/28/2002 11:19:00 AM
Very cool composition, and excellent use of contrast and depth-of-field.
04/27/2002 08:46:00 PM
Nice symbolism, lighting, focus...
04/27/2002 08:35:00 PM
What can I say - Jesus is Lord! Amen.
04/27/2002 04:32:00 PM
I love this pic...the infinity symbol really touches it off...this one captures me. Well done!

A personal favorite and symbolic of a transition in my life. :-) Technically speaking, if the angle was rotated more so the cross didn't fade into the shadows, it would have been more of a focus item. My eyes tend to follow the chain, as it is. Nice picture.

really great shot. Love the composition, dof.
04/26/2002 04:19:00 PM
It is an excellent picture but the transition is not evident. I know what it means to you but the meaning is internal. It still gets a good score because it is such an excellent photo.

i really dig the composition and angle you used.

Good lateral thinking! I would prefer slightly more light and focus on the cross itself tho

I like the infinity symbol in the chain and the depth of field
04/23/2002 11:19:00 PM
a bit to dark in the foreground
04/23/2002 08:33:00 PM
Good depth of field. Well done!
04/23/2002 05:29:00 PM
Nice DOF. Hard to see the nails.
04/23/2002 03:52:00 PM
Very good composition, great use if DOF.
04/23/2002 09:39:00 AM
nice compelling shot good composition
04/23/2002 09:10:00 AM
nice strong image.
04/23/2002 04:53:00 AM
You did a very nice job on this. B&W added that extra umph. Surface looks bumpy.
04/22/2002 09:07:00 PM
Simple, but so beautifully shot. The small depth of field works wonders for this shot. Could the cross itself be a bit brighter?
04/22/2002 08:19:00 PM
good idea, i think it might be hard for some people to understand the transition however
04/22/2002 04:59:00 PM
Good subject. Need more light on the cross.
04/22/2002 04:12:00 PM
I like DOF here, nice contrast
04/22/2002 03:35:00 PM
Great shot, excellent perspective. (Also a big fan of the subject.)
04/22/2002 02:09:00 PM
Whats the transition?
04/22/2002 02:09:00 PM
I like the mood and tone of this photograph. i think the out of focus background adds to the image. The only thing I don't like is that the transitional concept here is a little weak. Without the title, I would have had a hard time with it.

Nice composition. Did you put the chain in the infinity symbol on purpose? If you did thats a nice touch. Probably should have just opened up the aperture a little to get the whole cross in focus. Without looking at the title of the photograph this picture doesn't seem to fit the subject though.

A very strong photo containing several transitional elements - cross, light to dark, narrow DOF. The cross could be a little more crisp though. Nice angle. Good job.

I think a LARGE cross with Jesus on it and everything would have worked better. You could had even gavin it some crumby title like "Earth to Heaven/Man to God"
04/22/2002 10:23:00 AM
really good shot. I don't catch the transition, but I still like it anyway.
04/22/2002 08:53:00 AM
Nice framing and composition. As for transitioning, it's a far fetched idea.
04/22/2002 08:27:00 AM
I really like this picture but it doesn't fit with what I was expecting for this challenge. I understand, and like the idea, behind this picture but I was expecting photographs of things currently in transition.
04/22/2002 08:14:00 AM
I know you will be marked down by others because of your subject. Too bad because this is a strong representation of transition and is by far the best photo in the competition. You get a 10 from me. Great job.
04/22/2002 08:02:00 AM
um...huh? whats the transition here?
04/22/2002 08:02:00 AM
Neat idea. Good photo. Black and white works well here. Would be great if all of the cross was in focus.

Nice depth of field.
04/22/2002 07:49:00 AM
One of the best transitions of all....Jesus' Resurection. Nice...very nice. I like the way you set up the shot.
04/22/2002 07:32:00 AM
interesting interpretation, I'm sure you'll stir up some unkind comments. Well composed but the lighting needs some work. Perhaps a white card/ sheet of paper as a reflector to the right and pointing down would have lightened the shadows to the right of the cross ? You want to keep some of them but lighten them. Good attempt.

Very well done! Inviting - yet haunting.
04/22/2002 12:24:00 AM
Very powerful photo ! A little more depth of field and this would be a 10. It's up there with me !
