Selfportrait, based on a picture of a greek statue. (example here

Took a frisbee of my son and taped it to the palm of my hand with double sided tape.
Background black velvet.
500W halogen floodlight from top right.
60W halogen reading light from bottom left.

Took 72 shots to get the right posture and toning of the light. It is not an easy position to maintain, normally it is the end of a turn and beginning of the swing.

Editing :
* levels
* crop
* colorize, hue and saturation
* burn finger nails, they were too visible and emphasising my hand was taped to the discus
* clone (at 20%) on small burned out spot on discus to tone it down
* neatimage
* resize
* sharpen
* save for web

LOL, no problem Alisa, I'll take that as a compliment.

Thanks, Shiiizzzam, and all others who left comments. I didn't really expect a ribbon, but am slightly disappointed it is not in top 10. I guess I'll have to do some less strong coloring next time and use a female model. I'll look at it positively, it is still a yellow ribbon if you only take the male models.

I hate you didn't receive a ribbon for this photo. It's very well done and a piece of art. I look at some rated higher and shake my head. Any whooooo...well done !

Congratulations on your 13th placing. This was my pick for number one. Regardless, this may be the best image of this challenge. The pose is meticulous and the lighting superb. This may be the mascot of your port.

Classic. A pose straight off a Greek urn. IGreat positioning of the model. I'd be interested to see how this looks with a yellow/gold tone to the modes (like you'd see on some of the vases). But even without the color change- this is beautifully done. 10

Interesting color, I like the athletes focus and the Olympiad theme as the ancient games were competed in the nude.

i commented on another shot that it reminded me of a sculpture. This reminds me of Rodin's work. Beautiful lines on your subject and your choice of lighting really brings forward the idea of a perfect specimen of the human form released from marble or cast in iron. Your use of light and shadow gives the shot a museum exhibit feel too. Well done!

Colors all wrong in this, the pose looks terrific if I could see it, I miss out on the definition of the body somewhat, a deep tonal range in black and white wihtout the blue would make this image so much better - imo

I like it how the lighting & toning gives the live model (I assume) a statue like look.

Nice, low key works well. I like the way the light defines muscle and pose but doesn't give me enough detail to see him clearly. Very classical.

Great pose, very much like a statue, but really can't understand why you have given it a blue cast - black and white would be wonderful here.

If B&W then a 10 for sure, as is a 6

Funny that! I had the same idea but with the javelin! I changed ideas as the week progrssed and I'm glad I did cuz this is a great shot! The choice of blue gives it a mythical feel. a big 9 from me! I hope you make the top 5!

Didn't even think this was "real" at first, it is so perfect! I am scoring it very high, but as just a personal aside, I think I may have liked seeing it without the blue and with less-centered composition.

I think you nailed this one! Only critique is the lighting - maybe just a tad dark for my taste or it could be the placement. I would have liked to see more detail through the shoulder.

cool, dont know how possible it would have been but a blue on a white background would have popped out more imo. but anyways nice lighting and fitting concept with the olympics going on.
