Wow, this is absolutely stunning! I am both amazed and blown back by the level of sharp details you see in this seagulls down-turned wing! This bird is in flight and you effectively freeze framed it so that we can look at & appreciate the variation of colors in it's wing & body as well as the shape & texture of the wing. Also love how you captured it in a natural setting. The sand and the blur of the pier in the backdrop really helps invoke the imagery of a day at the beach watching the seagulls fly by.

hey, I've seen this photo before (in flight), and I was wondering where? Have you posted it on other sites?
Just wondering..

Good job. I still think this one is better:

What a great job capturing this majestic bird.
04/20/2002 03:17:00 PM
Great shot, very sharp, excellent detail
04/20/2002 12:12:00 PM
great dof; and no trails...
04/20/2002 11:32:00 AM
Detail is incredible
04/20/2002 10:03:00 AM
Sharp clear picture with excellent stopped motion. Wing tip extending out of edge has a tendency to pull me from the subject, and the background id distracting.
04/20/2002 05:28:00 AM
great!! congratulations
04/19/2002 03:55:00 PM
Sharp photo!
04/19/2002 02:58:00 PM
Excellent picture, pin sharp subject with a blurred background. Shame about it being a sea-gull!
04/19/2002 12:56:00 PM
Great shot. Very High Detail Focus is excelent. Id love to know the camera and settings.
04/19/2002 10:17:00 AM
Very nice shot.
04/19/2002 07:19:00 AM
Very clear and crisp. This may be the best yet.
04/19/2002 02:48:00 AM
wow.. this is an amazing shot. was this a zoo?
04/18/2002 03:57:00 PM
Great detail.
04/18/2002 01:01:00 PM
Is that an out of focus pier in the background? Too nice!
04/17/2002 11:26:00 PM
very nice
04/17/2002 11:19:00 PM
Wow -- insane detail for a flying bird. What kind of lens are you using to get this kind of effect? :)
04/17/2002 09:49:00 PM
Wow! Great timing!
04/17/2002 08:38:00 PM
Great shot. such fine detail. 10
04/17/2002 05:39:00 PM
Wow, very nice photo. This one grew on me. If only the tip of the wing were inside the image, it would be darn near perfect. Very nice work.
04/17/2002 04:10:00 PM
Amazing focus - it must have taken hundreds of shots to get!
04/17/2002 11:08:00 AM
Nice shot. The background being blurry just made the image of the bird even more sharp.
04/17/2002 10:55:00 AM
I tried this, this is much harder than I thought to do. Good job
04/17/2002 10:48:00 AM
totally awesome shot!
04/16/2002 09:10:00 PM
I like how the background is blurred (out of focus)
04/16/2002 07:50:00 PM
Good job. Depth Of Field is pretty nice. It's gonna be in the top 5 :)
04/16/2002 05:47:00 PM
Very well done with some remarkable detail. It only could have been better if the bottom wing wasn't cut off. Otherwise, great!
04/16/2002 05:08:00 PM
If there was one thing I had to complain about in this one its that the bird should have been a little bit more to the right.
04/16/2002 02:57:00 PM
this is an awesome shot! 10 for you!
04/16/2002 01:30:00 PM
superb interesting shot, lovely detail, well stopped
04/16/2002 12:46:00 PM
Great pic,well done
04/16/2002 12:11:00 PM
Great shot -- perfect focus -- would have loved it even more if the wing had made it completely into the image space instead of being just cropped out
04/16/2002 09:25:00 AM
My favorite animal photo in this challenge. great clarity for the bird, great out of focus background giving depth but not distracting the image. One of my top 5
04/16/2002 06:16:00 AM
This is very nice. It just seems like something isn't quite right about it. Like you should be able to see some of his other wing or a foot. The seagulls I know always fly with their feet hanging down. Hmmmm.
04/16/2002 12:36:00 AM
A shame that the tip of the wing was clipped a little, otherwise an excellent photo!
04/16/2002 12:23:00 AM
Just beautiful
04/15/2002 09:58:00 PM
Nice!!
04/15/2002 09:50:00 PM
Magnificent!
04/15/2002 08:43:00 PM
My camera can't do that...
04/15/2002 08:38:00 PM
Cool shot, though I like the one on your site better. The wing span was more full.
04/15/2002 07:35:00 PM
Nice capture. I rated this high.
04/15/2002 06:25:00 PM
Fantasic. Stunning detail
04/15/2002 06:24:00 PM
Very nice indeed. Excellent depth of field, good focus, composition etc.
04/15/2002 06:09:00 PM
Well exposed and good focus. Nice composition.
04/15/2002 05:13:00 PM
Finally, someone who knows the value of blurring the backgound. I like it a lot. Maybe I would have tried to keep the wing tip from touching the bottom edge but I'm not sure. I think I want to just keep looking at it.
04/15/2002 03:21:00 PM
Great photo. Very sharp and good interpretation of the challenge.
04/15/2002 02:37:00 PM
Nice focus.
04/15/2002 02:28:00 PM
Wow! Great detail.
04/15/2002 02:20:00 PM
beautiful shot.
04/15/2002 01:59:00 PM
Really nice .. good depth of field.
04/15/2002 01:51:00 PM
A shot to be proud of....Nice job!
04/15/2002 01:14:00 PM
I wish the beach in the background had a little more focus (shoulda told the seagull to slow down!), very good detail on the gull
04/15/2002 12:42:00 PM
This is going to be very difficult for me not to rate this photograph highly. This is an AWESOME photo. The composition is almost perfect. The wing is a little close to the bottom of the frame. The sharpness, detail, and perfect depth of field here makes this a phenomenal photograph. I am voting on this photograph by the same method I voted on another GREAT bird photograph. It would receive a 10 if the challenge was Birds. A gliding bird is a rather stationary object. I can't buy into this as a great interpretation of the challenge of "stopped motion". I related this to photographing a ferrari riding on a flatbed rail car in my earlier comments on another photograph. Kudos on the GREAT photo and keep up the good work.
04/15/2002 12:35:00 PM
great job
04/15/2002 12:07:00 PM
Wow! Just a TINY bit of wider framing so as to not lose that wing would've made this perfect. What a beautiful shot anyway though, the detail on the wing is staggering.
04/15/2002 11:28:00 AM
I love this photo. WOW! I can't say that there is anything wrong with this photo. :) I give this a 10
04/15/2002 10:41:00 AM
Great use of DoF to blur the background.
04/15/2002 10:12:00 AM
Nice shot. Definitely stopped the action here. One of the top pictures in my mind.
04/15/2002 09:57:00 AM
absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful focus and depth of field. Got no idea how u do that when the bird could fly anywhere
04/15/2002 08:40:00 AM
this is an A+
04/15/2002 08:01:00 AM
The blurred background really makes the subject stand out on the picture. Very well done!
04/15/2002 07:47:00 AM
Breath taking capture ! I would hang it on my wall ! Soooo feel free to email this to me haha WoW ! This is a great one !
04/15/2002 05:50:00 AM
very nice zoom.
04/15/2002 02:21:00 AM
I find this a very appealing photo! main subject very sharp. Lovely colours. A winner I feel!
04/15/2002 01:10:00 AM
All I can say is, "Amazing!"
