 Wow. Thank you very much. I normally don't track scores but I took a peek last night and was blown away that this was at 6.9 with all the wonderful photos in this challenge. Some amazing stuff in this one.

The funny story to this is that I was visiting my parents in Florida when the "two lonely shoes in B&W" challenge was announced. Immediately I knew what I was going to do. There are these two shoes that have been lying in a field for four months that I see every day on my way to work. I've invented all kinds of stories about them that have ranged from compost to alien abduction. When this challenge had been mentioned I thought finally, there is some order to this world, and these shoes have entered my life for a purpose. What a tidy circle.

There was a train strike and I was stranded somewhere else and I never got to take the photo for the challenge. After hours and hours of tears I decided, hell, I'll take it anyway. Just for me, or maybe I'll post it in the outtakes thread.

So I packed up my camera on a nice misty morning to take a photo of two shoes for an expired challenge. I made it 33% of the way to my destination when boom, another train strike. This one had me stranded for four hours without transport options in any direction.

But I was in Bad Dürkheim and I had my camera. Things could be worse. So I went for a walk up to the abbey. It was a beautiful scene on a special day and I managed, out of a hundred or so shots into the mist, to take a single decent pic, and this is it.

And I have the shoes to thank for it.

I'm glad I looked at your profile -- how did I miss congratulating people in the negative space challenge?? I love negative space!!

What a beautiful shot! I find fog very difficult to process correctly. This is beautifully done and beautifully seen! Congrats on a well deserved red!

This is absolutely beautiful. It's scores like these on images like this that made a lot of people leave this site. This photo is truly under rated. IF I would have voted I would have gave it a 10.
