Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Carl Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZF Distagon T

Thank you for the wonderful comments, the appreciation is appreciated!

This is an 8 second exposure, the first handful or so of seconds was "still", the last few were slowly panned for the texture. 10-stop ND filter was used for the long shutter speed. I choose the aperture to keep the shutter speed reasonable.

So glad I saw this on Robert's thread. I would hate to have never seen this beauty.

Well, that's not an abstract to me. It is a bit like Watteau's "The Embarkation for Cytera". yes, there is this island where we long to go ...

Lovely image. It brings Corot to mind as well.

I can't believe I never commentted on this! (perhaps I did before the challenge started though). One of my overall favorites of yours, Ben... wonderful mood, tonality, and textures, just very painterly shot.

Lovely! If a tree fell in the forest and you could see it but not hear it... anyway. This has an awesome sense of motion, like any minute it's all going to pick itself up and waltz away.

Thoreau via Turner. My exact thoughts. Lovely indeed.

So did you use a Vaseline filter for this or some camera shake? :-)

I almost think I can almost see a saggy old abandoned house back there in the shadows.

You don't stop discovering things here for a long time when looking at it (and I've been looking a long time! :) )
I don't think I've seen a whole pile relating to sentinel, though...
I also attempted to figure out what Thoreau might refer to... but failed.
I love this shot so it's fav'd. But... I can't score it as high as I normally do favourites I'm afraid. 7

nice shot, very atmospheric, i don't read it as a sentinel though.

Thoreau as interpreted by Turner, perhaps. Splendid picture although I am not convinced that it can stand for "Sentinel" unless we go via Thoreau's writings. 9

Grasping for the challenge connection. That said - I am enjoying this image very much. Thank you.

Very interesting and engaging image. Makes the viewer feel like a sentinel looking for something in the distance. It also conveys the uneasy feeling of being watched. Maybe I missed what you're saying completely but it's always nice to hear how an image is interpreted.

Sigh...This is really so exquisite, Ben, as though a brilliant thought was had by the world, in the heart of the evening forest.
