Challenge: Chocolate (Basic Editing I)

Played around with a bunch of chocolate chips since it was the only chocolate I had in the house. I lined them up in rows and realized they looked like little waves. Looked up online directions and learned to fold an itty bitty origami sailboat to really drive home the idea that it was a choppy sea. (Oh the things I've learned since I joined this website! Miniature origami!)

I wish the DOF was a little better, but I was having issues getting a decent shutter speed with the smaller apertures and I had to hand hold the camera to get the right angle. I was working under time constraints so this was the best I got. This isn't too bad, I hope.

Probably not a winner, but I think it's pretty cute and it was fun doing it. :)

Thanks for all the great comments!! I'm truly humbled and a little embarrassed this placed so high when to me the focus issues were so detrimental! This really taught me that creativity can really go a long way towards earning a good vote! I only wish I'd had more time to smooth out the technical aspects. I think you all were right, this *could have* been a ribbon. Argh. So close and yet so far! :(

hey this is really cool. The chocolate waves look almost cartoonish or something.

i like the boat... and i like the fact that its not quite perfectly in focus.. i think it helps push across the fact that the 'sea' was choppy... kudos!

this is a great idea, with an awsome title, but i think the shot could have been worked on a little more. with a sharper image and a better backround, this idea could have made it to the top 10.

Wow! Brilliant. The blue sky in the background is a nice touch too. Some clouds could make it even better maybe. Good focus, exposure, framing. What is the boat made of?

Haha, cute! I like the idea, the overall feel. I wish it were less blurry though. I'd like to see the lighting source a little less blue/white toned.

You came up with a very ORIGINAL and UNIQUE idea - then executed it with class. Great choice of colors in a near-perfect composition. The only suggestion for the composition would be to make the top of the sail extend just a bit above the horizen of brown - into the blue area.

Very creative concept! The chocolate looks a little grainy but I'm certainly not going to deduct points for that as I'm sure the choco-chip makers didn't produces these little gems of goodness with photographers in mind, right?

Excellent idea & composition. I like how the diaginal lines between the chips lead the eye back to the boat from the top of the frame.

Awesome idea! One of the other contestants contributed a shot where the chips were starting to melt. When I commented on that photo I mentioned that it had reduced the chalky look often seen from chips right out of the bag. I'm thinking if you just ever so slightly melted the chips here if you would have a smoother more appealing look to the chips. Still, a great idea. Always nice to see somebody who has obviously taken some time with their idea.
