I'm stunned by the response to this image. Thanks for all of the great comments! I'm glad to see a few folks got the title reference to the ballet. Thank you Don for the gallery space.

Giselle

These two birds were nuzzling before they took flight. I was using a 1/400 shutter speed to get some blur.

More blur can be seen in my wildlife entry.

stunning shot ben .. i saw this and meant to comment ages ago but somehow it didnt happen .. altho they're friends it looks like that bird on the right is flying for its life .. trying to get away .. even its eye seems scared .. amazing how an image can be totally different from the reality .. anyways .. this is awesome .. !!..:)

I really expected this magnificent shot to ribbon but very well done with your score and faves (mine included!)

This is somehow audacious. We were not meant to pluck these birds from midflight, to know their dance moves.

A 6.7 and not in the top 10. That's some stiff competition. Congrats on a gorgeous capture. And look at all those faves. Awesome!

I love their choreography. The slow shutter preserves some of the dance for the viewer. Beautiful.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Lovely stuff this - makes me want to watch a slow motion video of this with very loud classical music. The balance between clarity and blurry dynamism is excellent. The detail on the feathers of the left bird is astonishing.

Critical stuff: Nothing.

Overall: Very nice indeed.

It’s a rare treat for me to be able to comment with enthusiasm on an image that is surely going to finish in the ribbons. I’m usually scrounging about down at the other end.

It’s perfect of course, and the titular reference is also perfect. Nothing more to say really, except thank you. It’s my second-to-top pick.

The clarity and expression on the lead pigeon is quite extraordinary with those poses and motion blur. Even without the title my imagination can weave all sorts of stories from this image. Well done.

You are on a first name basis with the pigeons? That suggests this may be a Melethia entry.

Wonderful tones. Well chosen shutter speed to capture motion of the wings but keep the tails and head in focus.
