I took a friend over to the local bowling alley for a few practice games! The idea for the shot came to me while bowling last week in my league.

it's too bad the all the flying pins are about the same angle, it's kinda flat.

Excellent stop motion, but it might have had a bit more flair if the pins had some more action on them. (e.g., flying side to side, crashing into the top, etc...) Also, nice reflection of the pins in the lane.

excellent!

A different shot with all the pins going down would've been more dramatic. The colors seem very dull.
04/20/2002 08:36:00 AM
Nice shot but shows some residual blurr.

I've been mulling over this photograph. I really like it but the lighting or something is just off. I might have prefered if the right edge and the top were cropped out of the image. Then I might add just a bit of contrast to make the background black and to bring out the ball a bit more.

Like the action and the reflection.
04/19/2002 03:19:00 PM
Nice timing, shame it wasn't a strike!
04/19/2002 11:50:00 AM
A strike this is not, but its a great shot and its not Water Droplets! Did you use extra flash or did they let you go down the adjacent alley?
If it was and Extra flash, try mofing it farther to your left to get rid of the shadow of the side. you did a good job of minimizing it though.

This one just doesn't really grab me.
04/19/2002 01:32:00 AM
heh. nice stop action idea.
04/18/2002 03:40:00 PM
lovely reflections.
04/18/2002 06:05:00 AM
great shot, wish it was a tighter shot though, find the gutter distracting (lower right corner)
04/18/2002 01:29:00 AM
I don't know how a bowling shot could be better except for maybe a better position of the pins in the air.
04/17/2002 02:28:00 PM
A little less of the bottom of the picture, and a little less at the top. On my monitor, the pins "moving" are sharper than the pins standing still. Hope you won. :-)
04/17/2002 11:11:00 AM
not a strike : ) .. original. would have liked view closer to the pins.
04/17/2002 11:04:00 AM
Like the mid air capture. Good job...but theyre not flying
04/17/2002 09:42:00 AM
good stopped motion. Did you have a cropped version of this? I saw one on the web that might have been yours. The close up was more dramatic. You have some good pictures!
04/16/2002 06:26:00 PM
The color is a bit bland, cropping the shot to eliminate the gutter and the pin-setting mechanism would help too
04/16/2002 04:44:00 PM
nice reflection
04/16/2002 03:51:00 PM
This shot has an incredible amount of energy -- I actually keep expecting to see that bowling ball move
04/16/2002 03:49:00 PM
I like this shot, the shadows really add a nice effect.
04/16/2002 01:25:00 PM
good pic, great timing, stopped dead
04/16/2002 05:11:00 AM
that like my bowling
04/16/2002 12:18:00 AM
Cool "flying" pin and nice reflection. I would have cropped off the top a bit
04/15/2002 10:02:00 PM
Just a tad bit of blur, nice shot.
04/15/2002 06:05:00 PM
I rated this one high for the stopped motion. However I deducted because it was not as "pretty" as I would like to see. I understand you were limited by the constraints of the aspect ratio of the scene. Maybe playing around with the shooting angle and tighter cropping would have avoided some of the "mechanicals" of the alley? Good job.
04/15/2002 04:06:00 PM
Great interpretation of the challenge. You did a good job stopping the action.
04/15/2002 02:33:00 PM
How did you get so close to the pins?
04/15/2002 02:29:00 PM
i like the mirror image
04/15/2002 02:20:00 PM
Good detail. Nice reflection.
04/15/2002 01:17:00 PM
Most original of the sports shots so far.
04/15/2002 11:41:00 AM
Hey...It's not a water shot.
04/15/2002 10:58:00 AM
I think this is a nice choice of "stopped motion". I did one like this myself but didn't submit it. You can see it at //breifcase.yahoo.com/six_string_nc under the dpchallenge folder if you would like to take a look. The reflections are nice as well!
04/15/2002 10:37:00 AM
Good focus. Cool reflection. Really like the pins hanging in mid-air.
04/15/2002 10:19:00 AM
Nice capture. I think the reflection adds to it:) The only thing I think I would do different would be the cropping. That top left area and the right distracts from the main subject.
04/15/2002 10:06:00 AM
Nice shot. Good angle and good timing.
04/15/2002 10:00:00 AM
great shot ... if only it were a strike! Were you standing in the next alley?
04/15/2002 09:31:00 AM
Really good stop motion! I'm just not too favorable on the angle, the gutter catches my attention too much.
04/15/2002 09:27:00 AM
Wow, good action capture. Something bothers me though, maybe it's that the pins in motion are horizontal and nearly aligned to each other so the action is not as obvious as it would be if they were scatterd across the frame at angles. No criticism, just an observation. Bet it took a lot of shots to get this. :)
04/15/2002 07:24:00 AM
Nice try, but a strike would look better if you had the chance. Seems over exposed as all the colours have been washed out.
