Challenge: Advertisement Revisited (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Sony DSC-F828
Location: Table in my garage
Date: Jul 5, 2004
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 64
Shutter: 1.6sec
Date Uploaded: Jul 6, 2004

An Intel Pentium processor was removed from an old computer. The processor was propped up at an angle on a motherboard to capture the circuitry as a background. An incandescent lamp provided most of the lighting while colored LED lights were used to make a neon-styled glow in parts of the picture. The idea was to make it look like it was inside a "live" computer.

Post processing included color, levels, brightness, and contrast adjustment.

the writing on the chip seems a bit out of focus, but besides that great shot.

Deeper DOF and this wins a ribbon. Nice lighting.

It's what's inside that counts? Then that PC doesn't count for much. A 200mhz Pentium?!? Oh, but it is MMX. Nice pictures. Great colors.

You shot a 200 Mhx Intel Pentium MMX CPU on top of the motherboard of a more modern AMD Athlon based system and you want me to see this as an ad for Intel? (No, I didn't have to look anything up, I read the bottom of the Intel CPU and I recognize the shape of the AMD CPU, plus the K755A number is of an Athlon Mainboard...

Anyway, good points for color and crispness of the image. You lose a few for mixing two brands as I don't know which "It's what is inside that counts" you are referring to...

Great concept and use of multiple light sources.

Interesting. The focus on the processor is a bit fuzzy or perhaps just noisy from compression. I think this is just too busy for an advertisment.

Very nice capture. I voted it among my top 10 picks. The only thing I'd suggest is to tone down the hot spots on the tops of the cylenders (may not be possible in basic editing. I monkeyed around with it a bit and couldn't improve it any.) and possibly desaturate the yellow/golda bit. Since it is a technical topic/image, I wonder if a bit deeper DOF would have made it pop a bit more?

i reeeally dont like it when colors are messed with like this. sometimes it is all right, but i think in this situation, it makes the picture too busy

nice colors, great focus. Althugh the processor isnt much to look at. Good job at making it more appealing to the eye.

Well lit but the DOF is too short for this sort of shot. Either make everything in the shot razor sharp, or tighten it up so the product is the only thing in focus, as it is with the foreground in and the backround out the eye tends to bounce around a bit too much. It is a small quible in a good overall shot.

Great lighting - the focus seems to be almost in the bottom of the picture, not on the chip, though. Best score I've given yet - 8.

I need a little more focus in this shot. The riot of colors distracts me from the product you're advertising. Make the chip stand out more.

Prefer AMD myself...

Nice clean image.
Good luck

Wow... so colorful! I may have cropped this a little further.. to take out those two yellow things (yes, that's a technical term!) in the back left that seem really over-exposed.

If this is in your computer, it's way past time to upgrade! The chip needs to be in focus but I like the colors and the softening of focus behind.

Oh, you did NOT just photograph an Intel chip on a motherboard made for an AMD Athlon! Oh, nuh-uh! Very cool though. I like the UV/Blue neon look. 7
