Really hoped this would finish much higher as it certainly deserved to.
Great work.

Lighting: Well done high-key. But that is exactly why the reflections in her eyes are so distracting, particularly the reflection of you in her right eye.
Pose: works well.
Background: nice.

I don't usually go for the high key approach when it comes to portraits, but this is nicely done. My only real complaint is the blue light between under her left eye...

Unusual and a very good portrait! I like the high-key feel to it.

Good job!

Cool idea, comes off pretty well. I find the reflections in her right eye distracting -- either more indirect lighting, a better angle, or some careful cloning could reduce that.

Nice shot, enjoyed it. The tonal difference between left and right side make it a challenging shot. Good job. 8

There's obviously a great deal of thought put into the making of this portrait. The high key is interesting. I don't think the selective toning works--it makes the hair somewhat green and unbalances the eyes. The complexity of the room reflected in her right eye also doesn't add.

Nicely done. Like the high-key effect. Eyes are expressive, but the reflections in the right eye are distracting, as is the ring on her ring finger...it's turned a bit. Well done. :o)

This is very effective.

Unconventional compo, excellent colors. The ring is a plus. Very very good. 10

Your processing has almost removed all the detail from her eyes - giving big black pools - could be what you are going for - but the title seems to contradict that

This is well done. Against the the other entries in the competition though, an abstract might have a tough time. Good luck.

I like the high feel to this image. I find the jewellery distracting. Still an overall strong image. Jacko. 8

i'm a little in two minds over this. i love how white everything is, and i think it's a very beautiful image. with regards to its portraitedness, i'm not entirely sure... traditionally, the face shouldn't be obscured, but it has so much style and drama, i don't really mind. i bit more colour in the eyes would be nice though, and possibly a little cloning in her right eye, because the reflections look a bit messy. nice shot though - 7.

Exposure needs to be a bit more uniform over the picture.

interesting creative idea.
06/29/2004 11:45:59 PM
I think this is a nice portrait, however the lighting seems a blit too bright. Her face fades into the background. I love the reflection in her eye and I do like the overall bright tone, would just like to be able to make out the definition of the right side of her face.

Great high key abd unusual pose. Not sure I like the green hair.

I like this alot!

looks over-exposed for me, but a great pose

Very creative effect - I like the whitening and the pose.

Excellent High key! Love the way that the focus falls off to the left and it gets softer and the eye on the right is sharp in comparison.

Her eye lashes appear blue and there's a little bit too much going on (reflection) in her left eye ... but I like the processing and the pose.

This deserves to win! What a gorgeous High Key shot! 10

My favourite so far, for both the technique used and also for having the bravery to submit it, as it will probably get as much criticism as plaudits.
It seems to work on a diagonal..with the lightest portion in the bottom left and the darkest , top right.
I love it..we don`t see enough of this type of stuff for me.
The only thing I would have changed was to take the rings off as they are slightly distracting in an otherwise perfect shot....10

Nice, although the colors on the ring are blown out nearly to white.
06/29/2004 01:43:23 AM
Wonderful high key shot.
06/29/2004 12:38:27 AM
Great idea, great composition. Should have cloned out all the reflection in the one pupil; it detracts from the whole.

Misses the challenge. Nice image, though.

Too bad you chose this shot that hides a pretty face. I find that the hand adds nothing to this shot. Good high key attempt, althought her hair at her temple is going green from the editing. Beautiful eyes.

Very crisp shot. Great job.

i like these "artsy" portraits...got a few of them myself. This is a beautiful shot in my eyes
06/28/2004 07:49:06 PM
Great picture... something bothers me about the reflections in the left eye...maybe a little cloning would have helped reduce the reflection.

Neat idea, but I would have preferred a bit darker exposure.

My favorite of this comp. A BIG 10
Can't give you any advice, it is perfection.
Well done. If this doesn't get a ribbon i'll eat my hat.

Now where did i put the salt and pepper... :)

Good luck

I like it. Maybe a tad sharper focus around the fingers, and it would really pop.

Beautiful. The harsh lighting works well, and I love the use of the hand and also the piercing eyes.

Wow, I can see you in them - crazy. Though I know this is a color challenge, this would be effective in black and white outside of the contest.
