Imagine looking at the New York City streets through your viewfinder when out of nowhere this adorable young stranger runs toward you like you're her long lost uncle. No inhibitions, no reservations. I was crouched down so I was at eye level with her. Snap!

That's all there was to it. If you were concerned with how blurry it was or some other trifling technical matter, then you already missed it.

I first introduced this shot back in August, and it got good feedback. Maybe the short narrative I included then helps tell the story. Maybe it works better in black and white. I don't think any of it matters in the long run. Bottom line: This picture makes me happy and represents why I enjoy photography. Some felt it, and I guess others didn't. That's okay.

Thank you for ALL the comments.

glad to see this again - it's gloriously alive (initially made a typo here that said 'alove' - but maybe that works too ;-)

Oh, bvy, I had been looking all over your portfolio for this one! (For the relatively recent memorable or favourite picture thread). Better in black and white. People just forget that a great deal of photography is just listening.

I think I've commented on this in the past. It's a cool shot. The girl is fun but the guy in the background really makes the photo lol. This scored way too low.

I don't know quite how to tie the title in with the image, and I'm not able to glean the main story here......5

This one is screaming bvy at me. Possible that I've seen it before on your Flickr page, as this cute little girl seems familiar. It also reminds me a little of one of my own shots from last year.

A little blurry on the girl, not sure what she is holding. Love the hat in the background :)

I love urban street shots. This is good. So much happening in little slice of life. Well done.

This image is on the verge of being interesting, but still looks very much like a snap shot to me.

a snapshot, not a well thought out image ... blurry

Straight off the mark because the small girl grabs your attention, I didn't see much else. After looking around for a bit I suddenly came across the guy in the black, holding what I'm guessing is some sort of electronic device, who for some reason despite looking really out of place, escaped my attention for the longest time! Just when I thought I had taken in everything, I spot all the psychic and tarot signs!

There's so much to take in on this shot, which is funny because at first glance there doesn't seem to be that much to look at at all!

Heh! I love the energy of this - not just of the little girl who stars here but of the world around here. The gentleman behind who may not approve of the young lady's outfit; the spa-psychic connection (there's an odd one for you) - it all adds up nicely.

What makes this shot priceless is that everything and everyone else in this shot is "stone faced"....lost in their own thoughts and business. This little girl is the "bright spot" in the shot and shows us that we lose this ability to be happy at the simplest of things as we grow older. Love this shot for what it's saying.

There are too many elements here competing for attention and the centred main subject does not work

your subject is very OOF and for me this distracts from the potential of the picture

Cute, and there's so much going on in the photo too, lots to see and take in.

This shot strikes me as being kinda random, with a bit too much going on. What is the subject? Is it the girl? Or Abraham Lincoln with the bike? The two women seem to be stuck in there for no reason, and we've got the van driving by. The scene just seems a bit too haphazard for me. I think I would have tried to capture just one of these elements. For me, the most interesting thing would have been to get a nice, tight and candid shot of Abe and his bike.
