I'm not too good about taking family pictures, so I'm glad I got this picture of my dad this past August, before he passed away in January. Taken from "around the corner" in a large wall mirror as he stood in the kitchen.

Not necessarily a "great picture" but the one I'm happiest to have taken.

I didn't participate in this challenge nor did I vote. However, when I came upon this photo I was drawn in. It's not technically perfect but there is so much emotion and feeling in it that It doesn't matter. In a matter of a second this photo (at least for me) tells a story of a lifetime. This photo shows the human side of photography. It also says a lot to me that you chose this photo for your best of 2009, It tells me that he meant a lot to you and he will be missed....

Sorry about your loss. I like the glimpse into the moment, and special memory you've captured.

Sometimes the moment is more important than the quality of the picture. Think this is one of those moments. Reminds me of my own dad.

I was pleased to see you entered this one, Paul. Lovely tribute.

For all the background clutter, none of it does much to tell us the story about him or what he's doing. Feels kind of voyeuristic too.

Somebody's sleepy, maybe. These moments are nice to capture.

the focus is good but had you lit his face it might have looked a bit better

to me your focus seems to be a little soft it is a nice candid shot

quite blurry and not a good composition with his head in the middle...

Has a very serene feel to it.

Nice candid shot and maybe needs to be sharp on face - looks like movement. I understand the effect that one wants with the o.o.f. objects in the fore but this is a bit to much. Subject also very centrally placed

Photo is a bit dark for my tastes, subject seems too centered. But a good candid moment you caught.

A touch off some how to my eye.

A nice picture of a man in his own element, but the background does distract and the centered composition also does not work for me. Furthermore, the post running behind his head also distracts things

He's thinking "Youth is wasted on the young." Touching capture.

This had a potential of being a great environmental portrait, unfortunately the DOF and the composition isn't doing anything for the shot imo. 3

The subject is too centered. Wish I could relate the person more to the surroundings. 5
