Camera: Fujifilm FinePix 2600Z
Location: My bathroom

Date Uploaded: Apr 12, 2002

For this picture I filled the sink in my bathroom with water and then adjusted the tap so that the water would just drip out.
It then took a lot of patience and a lot of trials to capture the right moment after a drop hits the watersurface.
The picture was taken in macro-modus, without tripod, and using the automatic settings of the camera.

This is a great shot shot. I may be wrong but I have seen a copy of it on an English forum recently. The photographer writes about timing the shot, but this can be overcome by making a little gadget consisting of a sensitive CRYSTAL MICROPHONE, an OP AMP, a TRANSISTOR and a THYRSITOR to trigger the flash. Only two shots required. One to set up the exposure and one to take the shot. the sound of the droplet hitting the water fires the flash. I have taken many shots, for instance a dart bursting a balloon.

Just now had a chance to look at the photos and this one is a great shot. It gives me the desire to try my hand at simlar type pictures with my 2600.

I loved your picture yours was my favorite. I think thats so cool and what really makes in neat is that when you look at the droplet of water you can see some sort of reflection. GREAT JOB!!!

after looking at your website, i must give you serious props for this photo...amazing job

Thanks, I was getting kind of annoyed by the complaints about "to many watershots" in the forums. It was the first time I ever made a picture of this subject, and didn't even think about it how often it was done before. I just wanted to make a good picture.

Also thanks to everbody forgiving such high votes and for the great comments. It was my second submission to any challenge ever and I never expected this.

Beause I was asked several times how the picture was made, I made a web-page with a full description. If you are interested, [a target="_blank" href="//digicam.weba000.com/dpc_stopmotion.html"]click here[/a] to go there (BTW: English is not my first language, so please don't mind the languistic errors on he page).

04/21/2002 09:56:00 PM
Very, very nice.
04/21/2002 09:43:00 PM
Great execution of a common subject.
04/21/2002 07:48:00 PM
water looks sharp and drop looks magnificent
04/21/2002 06:23:00 PM
The theme's been done by many... but this is by far the best.
04/21/2002 04:53:00 PM
nice picture.
04/21/2002 12:31:00 AM
Very nice, one of my favorites.
04/20/2002 07:25:00 PM
Wow, this looks like liquid metal. A great combination of lighting and composition.
04/20/2002 10:33:00 AM
Great sharp focus the best water shot IMHO.
04/20/2002 10:29:00 AM
You have accomplished what so many others have already done. Still I have to give credit where it is due, the lighting has more influence on this picture than does the stop action.
04/19/2002 08:21:00 PM
I like the light reflections.
04/19/2002 11:18:00 AM
so smooth it looks almost rendered
04/19/2002 10:18:00 AM
Very nicely done. The water thing is over done for this topic. I'm giving out my higher ratings for the more original images.
04/19/2002 09:42:00 AM
What did you use to camputre this picture
04/18/2002 05:08:00 PM
The water looks crystal!!! Very good
04/18/2002 08:55:00 AM
I think I've seen over a dozen water drops tonight. This is, in my recently enlarged experience, a very good one.
04/17/2002 11:37:00 PM
pretty
04/17/2002 05:47:00 PM
Very nice composition, very crisp image. Once of the best water shots. Nice photo!
04/17/2002 05:23:00 PM
Beautiful timing and lighting, feels almost like it was raytraced :o)
04/17/2002 03:34:00 PM
Wow. Although this is not necessarily an original concept, it is well executed, well composed, and sharp.
04/17/2002 01:32:00 PM
Good timing and capture.
04/17/2002 10:46:00 AM
excellent texture on that water! i wonder what the scale is here?
04/17/2002 03:54:00 AM
technically superb, georgeous without much colour
04/16/2002 06:29:00 PM
Great shot! I like the framing of the shot and the concetric ripples in the water.
04/16/2002 05:06:00 PM
Best water submission so far, nice how you used the rule of thirds, so many people put the subject in the center.
04/16/2002 02:46:00 PM
very cool, very peaceful!
04/16/2002 01:54:00 PM
This looks almost 3D-rendered the detail is so sharp. Wow.
04/16/2002 12:18:00 PM
Perhaps "everybody" decided to use liquid, but this is the best of the lot -- frozen and focused sharp as crystal
04/16/2002 11:36:00 AM
Terrific. Love the tones. focus, composition, etc. Very nice job.
04/15/2002 11:54:00 PM
Timed perfectly for the rebound upthrust! I love the way light is reflected off the water. Your off-center lower left quadrant emphasis is also very nice.
04/15/2002 08:41:00 PM
Great shot here. Technically superb. The best water shot I've seen thus far.
04/15/2002 07:57:00 PM
Though some have called the water shots boring, I think you did a great job here. Your composition and exposure are excellent in my opinion. Would have been even better if you could have avoided the few extra bubbles, forcing the viewers eye to stay on the main oblect in the scene. The photo evokes an image of blown glass. Nice work.
04/15/2002 07:48:00 PM
not too creative, but i have this thing for water.... DOWN BOY, DOWN!!! besides, the focus and all is really well done.... i like it, i like it a lot !
04/15/2002 06:34:00 PM
Nice composition.
04/15/2002 06:18:00 PM
Good and sharp nicely done
04/15/2002 05:26:00 PM
A Ten Here. Almost doesn't look like water.
04/15/2002 04:55:00 PM
looks totally fake, but since it isn't disqualified, you get a 10
04/15/2002 04:08:00 PM
Very nice!!!! Nothing is wrong with this photo. You met the challenge well! :)
04/15/2002 03:58:00 PM
Great photo. It reminds me of the guy in the Terminator that liquifies.
04/15/2002 02:08:00 PM
I like the way you cropped this image.
04/15/2002 02:02:00 PM
water.. go figure
04/15/2002 12:41:00 PM
nice shot ..
04/15/2002 12:03:00 PM
Visually striking image. A lot of water shots were inevitable, and this isn't just the best of those it's a fantastic shot overall.
04/15/2002 11:37:00 AM
Well executed!
04/15/2002 11:37:00 AM
I really like this image
04/15/2002 11:33:00 AM
I Like the color
04/15/2002 11:31:00 AM
I love this water shot ... looks like T2 gathering himself back together!
04/15/2002 10:51:00 AM
I know how hard it is to do this. Good work!
04/15/2002 10:01:00 AM

I think we have a winner!!! Maybe one day I will be this good. May I be your Jedi In Training? The force is with you Luke... I can feel it...
04/15/2002 09:38:00 AM
Lovely. Almost looks frozen. Great light/ highlights too. Like the off-center framing - tell us how you caught it ?
04/15/2002 09:24:00 AM
This is a nice shot, it looks digital, I'd be interested to hear how you took this
04/15/2002 09:05:00 AM
Oh my you caught that really well. Looks almost like ice.
04/15/2002 08:02:00 AM
Of all of the water pictures, this one was my favorite by far. I love the "texture" of the water.
04/15/2002 06:57:00 AM
I REALLY like this. The crisp, clean, action of it is great and the thirds rule is perfect. You caught the ripples and the drop in action.Great job :)
04/15/2002 03:17:00 AM
